In this episode, we sit down with Josh Rainy and Danny Stokes of Freedom Ops, a new nonprofit driven by a powerful mission to honor the fallen and support healing. Josh shares the story of their recent event, The Courage Climb, where they ascended Cadillac Mountain in Maine 13 times—each climb dedicated to one of the 13 heroes lost during the Afghanistan pullout. Our featured music comes from Caleb Boles, a veteran who discovered his passion for songwriting after service. Caleb describes it as simply “making a song,” yet the depth and power in his music speak volumes. He shares three moving pieces—Fortunate Frown, Beauties of War, and The Volunteer—each carrying its own heartfelt message.

This week on We Got Your 6@6, we welcomed the incredible Jimmy Weber—retired USAF, lifelong musician, and true storyteller through song. A fan of Vince Gill and inspired by legends like James Taylor and Glen Campbell, Jimmy has carried his passion from Air Force service into his music career. With experience in both the studio and on stage, he’s now traveling and creating with his band, alongside talents like the Shaw Brothers, Jason and John.

Jimmy shared three powerful songs with us:

“Black and Blue Heart” – a heartfelt piece about the bumps and bruises life throws our way.

“Western Moon” – recorded with Jake Mayer, reflecting on his South Dakota roots and the longing for the simple, authentic life of the West.

“TAPS (God is Nigh)” – bringing new life to the familiar melody by weaving in its little-known lyrics and a moving story behind the song.

From his military roots to his musical inspirations, Jimmy’s journey is one of resilience, gratitude, and staying true to the music that connects us all.

This week we had the honor of sitting down with Nigel Fischer, a retired Marine who is now dedicating his life to helping fellow veterans find healing. Nigel opened up about the power of music in a person’s life and shared the mission behind Guitars 4 Vets (G4V).

Together, they’ve reimagined the way we look at the heartbreaking “22 a Day” statistic. Their new approach, called “135 Alive,” encourages us to flip the focus—each time a veteran or first responder attempts to take his or her life, there are 135 people behind them who are still here and want that person to still be here. Make that call. Nigel has personal experience with the heavy thoughts that come with being at the edge, and his passion shines through as he speaks about transforming that pain into purpose through songwriting and guitars. Keep an eye out for his work with Face the Fight (with Craig Morgan, Sept 10) and exciting collaborations with Taylor Guitars.

Of course, we couldn’t help but smile when Petersen had his classic proud papa face moment—especially when connections between Romeo Vaughn and Nigel came full circle during the show.

Our guest Mike Deibler joined us to share about Veteran Command and his creation of DTS Maps — an interactive push-pin map that allows veterans to mark their travels and tell the stories tied to each place. Every pin carries a memory, a moment, and a story that shaped the journey. Mike also talked about “No Shit, There I Was”, a storytelling event hosted at a local brewery where veterans shared raw, eye-opening experiences straight from the heart.

Our music spotlight featured Michael Lisenby, a former law enforcement officer and first responder who has turned his passion toward songwriting. His music reflects deep personal experiences, resilience, and the brotherhood of service. Michael performed three powerful songs:

“I Got a Bottle” – Written after the tragic ambush that took the lives of fellow officers, this song is a tribute to their memory and a reminder that one day, they’ll share a drink together again in heaven.

“Hammer Down” – A song about racing to the side of a brother or sister in crisis, doing whatever it takes to be there when they need you most.

“Hold On Brother” – A heavy, emotional piece about fighting through danger to reach and protect your brother in the heat of battle.

In this episode of We Got Your 6 @ 6: Patriot Playtime, we’re not just talking about travel—we’re talking about transformation. “Let’s Talk About Going Places” explores the physical, emotional, and spiritual journeys our veterans and first responders take as they move toward healing and purpose.

We’re joined by Kathy Motlagh, who shares her powerful message about Think Virtues—a program rooted in emotional intelligence, leadership, and self-worth. Kathy brings passion, love, and positivity as she walks us through how Think Virtues helps veterans and first responders set goals, make plans, and learn how to thrive—even when they’re not feeling very worthy in the moment.

We also welcome Jack Nelson, a gifted singer-songwriter and veteran who brings the road to life through music. Jack kicks things off with Roadrunner, a high-energy track that celebrates the thrill of moving forward. Tonight, Army veteran Chris Cilento will share with us about Ravenworks Studios and using the mode of art as a therapeutic tool with others.  Chris has been working on some amazing items, and the DAV is now recognizing him for some of his healing kind of art, which is exactly what his mission is.  He has spent a lot of time researching and shooting these amazing pictures, but he has times when he is in need of the action and therapy that taking these pictures brings. One of the biggest hurdles in building this as a therapy is funding, believe it or not …  He could do so much more for the veteran community with some funding for the cause.

Southern Rock and Southern Grunge music that also falls into Red Dirt music style is what Josh Moore and the band, August Lows shares with us tonight. They have this interesting name, and it pertains to the time of year when the river near him is low, and how he was having a low time in his life.  He is trying very hard to bring back the local band and the freedom to be accepted for their own style, and not be a cookie cutter music artist.  The first song Josh shares is Old Man.  He was sure to share that it is one of the songs he has that talks about what is brought back from war, and that whole 22-a-day thing … you know, the invisible and deadly enemy. Not always so easy to deal with. The next song we played is called Want It To, and that was inspired by how we know that we are not always the best we cna be, but we want to try to be. He was raised on grunge, but also had some Axle Rose and other influences and we think he has done well coming through with all that background into his own style. The last song is The Devil Wants Me, and it is a song that has had a lot of thought, but has come through his friend who has been by his side through the challenges of losing some fingers, and Jacob Milton - this is his song! This is for sure not one of those cookie cutter versions!!!

We have Mr. Robert Heckler with us on this episode. Robert shares about his mission with The Warrior’s Refuge, out of West Columbia, TX.  They are a 501c3 Nonprofit ministry serving our nation’s homeless veterans by providing them with transitional housing and many resources to help end homelessness in their lives. Through housing, case management, counseling, training, and employment resources, our Veterans have the tools they need to succeed. The mission is to end Veteran Homelessness in Texas and ultimately throughout America. The belief is that since our veterans fought for us, it is our turn to fight for them. They do this by providing shelter, transitional living, case management, counseling, and vocational training, along with job placement. They have brought people in from all over the state of Texas and from several other states. The goal is to help the men and women who fought for us, have a place to push the restart button on life

Jeff believes in real music for real people.  He wants to make music that reaches people who may be struggling. The first song of the night was Monsters. This was a song written from a very dark place. It wasn’t written about suicide, but it was written about a recurring dream that sometimes made him not want to go to sleep at night.  The feedback from this song was relatable to people who had dealt with suicide in their lives. The video is very much about mental health and suicide.  His next song was called High Horse. This was sort of a dis track.  It’s an upbeat and fun song. The final song of the night was called Rain.  This song is about learning to live in the here and now.  Yesterday is dead and gone, tomorrow hasn’t happened yet, so focus on the present.
