The Lads dive into 2024's A Quiet Place:  Day One.  A prequel to the first two films in the franchise, directed by Michael Sarnoski.  Lupita Nyong'o stars as a terminally ill woman trying to make her way through New York City to get a slice of pizza with her cat, Frodo.  No, really.  Along the way she meets a young law student played by Joseph Quinn and together they attempt to evade blind aliens who have an acute sense of hearing and a thirst to eradicate life on earth.

The Lads unpack the epic conclusion to Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel , 2024’s Dune: Part Two.  After the Harkonnens take back control of Arrakis, Paul Atreides and his Bene Gesserit mother live with the Fremen. They will both be called on to contribute to the fight to rid Arakkis of its invaders, each in different ways.  Our friend, Derek, makes his third appearance on the show to discuss everything we love about this incredible film.

The Lads discuss 2021’s Dune (Part One), directed by Denis Villeneuve. In the year 10,191, House Atreides are given the charge of taking over mining the planet Arrakis (also known as Dune) for spice, the most valuable commodity in the universe. But the previous fief holders, House Harkonnen, are not letting it go without a fight. With an all star cast including Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgaard, Zendaya, Javier Bardem and Jason Momoa, and a incredible score by Hans Zimmer, Dune is a visually stunning masterpiece from one of our favorite directors in recent history.

The Lads talk about Christopher Nolan's 2023 Best Picture Oscar winning Magnum Opus, Oppenheimer.  Cillian Murphy (in an Oscar winning performance) leads an ensemble cast including Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr,  Matt Damon,  Florence Pugh and Josh Hartnett, to name just a few.  The film tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, theoretical physicist, who is commonly referred to as the "father of the atomic bomb".  Join us as we discuss the brilliance of every aspect of this amazing film.

Hail to the King, Baby!  The Lads finally discuss the final film in Peter Jackson's adaptation of JRR Tolkiens' Lord of the Rings Trilogy, 2003's The Return of the King.  Frodo and Sam must battle a giant spider, escape Orc legions and cross the barren, inhospitable landscape of Mordor in order to finally reach Mount Doom and destroy the One Ring.  Meanwhile Gandalf must defend Minus Tirith, the stronghold of Gondor in order to clear the way for Aragorn, who is coming to claim his throne.  It's an amazing achievement in cinema that we spend quite a bit of time gushing about (spoiler alert: it's our favorite of the 3 films).

The Lads talk about their predictions for the Oscars, which air Sunday March 10th.
We talk about which movies are our favorites from 2023 and what we hope will happen during the ceremony.  We will post another episode after the Oscars, where we talk about the winners and what we liked and disliked about the show.  It was a really great year for movies and we are excited to watch and see what happens this coming Sunday!

It's our first Listener Request episode!  Today the Lads talk about Babylon, Damien Chazelle's 2022 epic dramedy about Hollywood's transition from silent films to sound films in the late 1920's to early 1930's.  Featuring a large cast headlined by Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, this film is an exercise in excess in almost every aspect.  Combining breathtaking cinematography, superb acting and a wonderful score, Babylon is a visually stunning, albeit flawed, spectacle that we really enjoyed watching and discussing.  Thanks to Alex for suggesting it!  We would love to get more requests.  For anyone that's so inclined, please email us at [email protected].
