This civic leadership programme held in Manchester ran from November 2023 through to June 2024 with a series of in-person workshops, online reflection, peer learning groups and action-based mentorship days.
In this first episode, we hear powerful welcome speeches from the launch event with the Mayor of Manchester and commissioner of the project, Andy Burnham, Leader of Oldham Council & Greater Manchester Equalities Lead, Arooj Shah and Olympian and British and Commonwealth champion, Dr Diane Modahl MBE.
Transformation coach Jackie Bailey speaks on delivering the first workshop on finding our purpose as civic leaders, and we hear the participants start to uncover their own purpose as a result.
Participants explore the question ‘what makes a good leader?’ and we hear some key leaders who are working across a range of different systems talk to the group, including Chief Inspector of Greater Manchester, Emma Gilbert, Chief Officer of the Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN), Reverend Charles Kwaku-Odoi and Greater Manchester Combined Authorities Digital Innovation and Partnerships Lead, Beena Puri.
Dr. June Williams of Street Holistics speaks about her Self Care for Leaders session and we hear from a few participants on their personal journeys with self care. Nearing the end of the episode, the participants reveal the difference they’d like to see in themselves by the end of the programme.
