We Love That!

The baritone realness in this episode... well it's giving the girls everything they want! Our guest is future American Idol winner Xavier Washington! We talk everything from trying to write original music and blacking out during performances to an Usher vs. Beyoncé Verzuz and why Rachel got all those solos over Mercedes! All while Xavier tries and ultimately succeeds in not getting canceled. And did we mention he's on American Idol?? Wig...

We're talking New York, we're talking visual art, we're talking Tumblr culture, and then we're talking New York some more. Our guest this week is writer, artist, eater and yoga-doer, Isis Davis-Marks! Isis talks us through seeking pleasure and bringing Black frivolity to art, and she also asks that you stop using words if you don't know what they mean. So stop! Find out why Beyoncé must be a hard sister to have, if p*pular is a dirty word, and whether we're in the spaceship from Wall-E, Squidward's time machine void, or just a Zoom breakout room.

This week we're kicking off Black History Month with visiting professor, high note ambassador, and loaf queen, David Washington! And it is indeed both a good week AND a good month. We're throwing out taste in exchange for talent and discussing everything from the Glee Smule App to representation by Oprah, we pass the Beyoncé stan bill and the Beanie Baby resolution, and it's all wrapped up in an audit from the DJW School of Belting. So bust out your WWDWD40, because this episode is a good one! Jerome literally gags on the vocal technique at several points. And brace yourselves, because David might be getting cancelled by the basses after this one...

Are we humans, or are we... well, are we even humans?? This week we've got singer/songwriter/performer/meditator/maybe-not-a-human Michael Blume on the podcast to talk about healing, contemplate whether or not to get the notebook (just get the notebook!), and finally explain the connection between meditation, singing, and bottomming. This episode doesn't include quite as much gay shit as you might expect, but we do hear the tiniest sneak peek of new music coming our way! And what's not gay about that?!

2 Personalities, 2 Quizzes, 2 Furious. And everybody loves a good sequel! This week we're diving back into the world of personality quizzes between conversations about Lady Gaga albums, praise of Jazmine Sullivan, and avoiding the topic of body rolls in general. Other gems include: everyone's a doctor according to Jerome, so be sure to take your met-i-sin; throw out your copy of Grapes of Wrath, and replace it with Words of Aff; and delightful parallel mentions of Macaroni Grill crayons and extraversion olive oil. And that's all she wrote on THAT one, darling dear.

We're back. We're always back. And we don't want to hear your initial reaction!! This week, the name on everybody's lips is misinformation... or at least that's what we heard on Parler. Tune in for fierce metaphors, white people trying it (again), and the return of the ancient bird. And remember, stay NOT woke. Ya dig?

Out of the frying pan and into the fire, we're back and it's 2021! Before a rousing and in depth discussion on purpose and Black audience in Soul and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, we make some unhinged predictions for 2050 and Kenyon says something about googobs. And consider, dear listeners, who needs options when you have melody? #GoGetYourSparkIn2021

We have arrived at the final episode of the year, and to mark the occasion Jerome and Kenyon are taking a look back at all the things they got up to in 2020! Jerome debuts his remix of a Rogers & Hammerstein classic, and Kenyon professes his enduring love for the present moment. And what year-in-review would be complete without a redacted thank you speech to George Lucas? We're so glad you asked.

See you in 2021!

In our most momentous 30th episode, we have iconic guests, Constant Strangers! Mary Bolt and Chris Peters are great musicians, dear friends, and bad drummers. We discuss their writing process and exciting upcoming release(!!!), as well as some new vocabulary terms, including: B-side, triple single, and porous. This episode is a perfect exemplar of the podcast because Jerome talks a lot about Barbra Streisand and Kenyon tries to unpack our cultural understanding of slavery.
