This week on Erica In The Middle, Erica is joined by local activist and student, Khadija El-Hilali. First, they discuss the challenges she experienced growing up in Morocco and Canada. Then, they discuss how she became involved in giving back to her community and how that influenced her decision to study Global and International Studies at Carleton University. Later, they discuss her involvement with the Overbrook Community Association, in addition to her time working at the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General of Canada. Finally, they discuss why she decided to launch a now widely signed petition demanding for the implementation of an anti-racism course at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, her experience participating in a student protest in December 2020, and, if given the opportunity, what she would say in a meeting with Ottawa Mayor, Jim Watson, and Ottawa Chief of Police, Peter Sloly.
