In this capsule, we had Fantasi, a Ph.D. student in engineering education at Purdue University, telling us her experience as a black woman from the frame of the stereotypes. It was a thoughtful and nice conversation that invites us to reflect on our values and beliefs.
In this episode, we explored our perception of stereotypes and talked about the stereotypes that each of us has faced or known from the perspective of our countries, as Ph.D. students, and as engineering practitioners. This is a complex topic to talk about and we barely scratched its surface, but we tried to see it from the experiences we have had. In the capsule, that is going to be launch in two weeks, we will have Fantasi, another engineering education Ph.D. student at Purdue, as our guest. Enjoy it!
In this episode, we first cleared the air about why we chose "We, the aliens" as a title. Then, we discussed our experiences, frustrations, anecdotes about conversing in English in the U.S., and some of the differences in ourselves when we are using our first languages and English. In the Capsule for this episode, we invited our friend and fellow ENE student Aris and asked him to share his opinions and experiences on this episode's topic.
In this first episode of our podcast hosted by ENEGSA ESL and multicultural committee members Bárbara, Cristián, and Olivia, we shared a little bit about ourselves, our stories as international students living and studying in the U.S., why we are creating a podcast, and last but not the least, Halloween, around the time that our first episode is released. The Capsule guest for this episode is Aziz, our President of ENEGSA. The song he recommended is Makeba by Jain. Stay tuned for more exciting content!
