Welcome back to We Wonder: Lent.
This is the fourth week of Lent: we are right at the halfway point of the season. If we turn around and look backward, we can see Jesus beginning to teach his friends about what is going to happen to him. If we look forward, down the road, we can see the city of Jerusalem rising up on its hill, and maybe, just beyond it, a cross.
For the next three weeks, we will continue to walk with Jesus, step by step, to his road’s end. We will listen to the account of that journey from Matthew’s gospel. And as we do, we will keep listening to Jesus’s words and imagine that we are there with him: that he is speaking directly to us. And we will continue to pay attention, each day, to what we see, and hear, and feel. It will be our way of keeping company with Jesus.
I hope that you can listen every day this week, and let these words take deep root in your heart. I hope that you can hear Jesus speaking to you, and coming close to you, every day, no matter what your week is like.
This week’s reading is from the gospel of Matthew, chapter 19, verses 13 through 26. Jesus and his friends have traveled out of Galilee, which is their home, and across the Jordan River into Judea. As they go, crowds follow him, religious leaders test him, and people ask him questions. Everyone wants to see Jesus, and hear what he will say next. Let’s join him on the road.

Welcome back to We Wonder: Lent.
Now we are in the third week of Lent. We aren’t yet halfway through, and the season is still stretched out in front of us as we make our way with Jesus along the road to Jerusalem, and to the cross.
Still, little by little, we will keep walking with Jesus through Matthew’s gospel, as he makes his final journey with his friends. Along the road, we will listen to his words and imagine that we are there with him: that he is speaking directly to us. And we will pay attention, each day, to what we see, and hear, and feel. After all, every day is different; but we still need to meet and listen for God, in all that is happening to us. I wonder what we will notice, as we listen to the same words over and over, all week long? I wonder what we will have to say to God?
I hope that you can listen every day this week, and let these words take deep root in your heart. I hope you can picture this season as a journey with Jesus, and come close to him as his time on earth grows short.
This week’s reading is from the gospel of Matthew, chapter 18, verses 1 through 5, and 10 through 14. Jesus’s friends have begun to understand who Jesus is, a little: Peter has said out loud that Jesus is the Messiah, the man sent by God to save his people. But they are still learning how Jesus will save them, and what kind of Savior and King he will be. So as they travel along the road, the disciples ask Jesus a question. I wonder what answer they hope he will give?

Welcome back to We Wonder: Lent.
We’re in the second week of Lent: this week, we are going a little further down the road with Jesus in Matthew’s gospel, as he walks with his disciples to Jerusalem one last time.
I hope you can imagine yourself walking alongside Jesus on the path to Jerusalem as we make our way with him up to the cross.
This week’s reading is Matthew 17:14-21. Jesus and his three closest friends have just come down from the mountaintop. Peter, James, and John saw Jesus flooded with glory, and they heard a voice from heaven tell them, “This is my Son, and I love him. Listen to him!” Now they have come back down to join the other nine disciples, and a large crowd that has come to them for help.
