What is the Christian work ethic like in practice? Is work not simply a drudgery that we need to endure, in order to enjoy our time off, our weekends, holidays and eventually retirement? Or is work a gift from God, to give us a sense of fulfilment? Yet, how did it become toil instead of simply a pleasant experience? While it is possible to outline the Christian work ethic under ideal circumstances, it is more difficult to do so when we face real-world issues. For example, should we do our best at work, even when we are being underpaid, undervalued, or discriminated against? Thankfully, there are good answers to such dilemmas. In Colossians 3:22-4:1 Paul gives us guidance as to how to work, not merely to please our human bosses, but to please our boss in Heaven.
