2 out of the next 3 Winter storms have access to copious amounts of Gulf moisture (Gulf Of America). All 3 ingredients necessary for a major 6+ inch snow storm are forecasted to come together mid-week. Storm to bring a widespread impactful snow to Chicago and other Midwest cities.

A similar storm will track across the Midwest this weekend impacting similiar areas. Imagery is Sunday evenings (2/9/25) European computer models showing Chicago snow totals for this Wednesday night system.

Low pressure of 29.6 tracks from the Southern High Plains to Mid-Atlantic area. Precipitation of a convective nature is occurring even on its cold side bringing thundersnow to areas that don't normally see this. Portions of Kansas will be seeing it's heaviest snowfall in 60 years as 12+ inches falls within a relatively short period of time. Storm starts to develop a negative tilt as it brings in strong Arctic air on its back side while copious gulf moisture feeds into the system. Areas that receive 0.5 inches of ice or more could expect to see at least some power outages. This storm will impact many major cities across states in the central U.S. to Mid-Atlantic. This includes St.Louis, Cincinnati, Baltimore and even Washington D.C. where 5 to 10 inches is currently forecasted. This episode discusses all this in more detail. An airport not far from Carrizo Springs, Texas reaches 99°F (37°C) today 12/30/24. Arctic Outbreak Next Week Is Forecasted to impact the Gulf Coast. This brings accumulating snow and/or ice to South Texas. This episode discusses this along with a winter storm early next week which could produce a 6+ inch snow total from the Midwest to potentially New York City. Winter weather pattern takes over on January 1st or a few hours before. This pattern is expected to last for the remainder of the 2 week forecast cycle. A storm is expected to develop in the southern plains Saturday evening and bring a major snowfall to portions of the state of Missouri on Sunday 1/5/24. The system might fall apart for places East of the Mississippi. There is also a chance it could strengthen. The forecast becomes very difficult for places East of the Mississippi River.
