Welcome to Weather Together! Today we’ll be discussing freedom and independence.
Today we've again formatted the conversation around our segment called, "Circle Settle In". During our in-person events it's called, "Circle Share In". We hope the questions we've posed today are ones you can ask around your own table.
1. Do you ever take vacations? Why or why not?
2. Is it appropriate to celebrate during tragedies?
3. If you could invent a holiday, what would the holiday celebrate or commemorate? What activities would you do on that day?
4. Are you proud of your country of origin?
5. Do you believe it’s ever possible to be independent?
6. Do you value independence?
7. Do you value one over the other? Independence vs. interdependence. Why?
8. Are there some holidays that you feel you shouldn’t celebrate because they aren’t for you? If so, why?
10. Is there a way to tell the difference between when you are celebrating, appropriating or showing appreciation for someone’s culture? How do you know?
In this conversation we address what it means to be free of state sponsored violence against black and brown people and how each of us can start the work towards intentionally building a healthy and whole community. We are lifting up the voices of BIPOC of all ages to discuss what will make our communities safe(r). Listen to hear what each of our guests agreed was the number one resource currently making us feel safe(r) in our own neighborhoods, as we continue to reimagine an equitable and just future for our communities.
