  • The Shemoneh Esrei In Depth with Rabbi David Sedley: Episode 6

Da’at: In this episode we move from sacred to profane (in the words of Rav Kook, based on the Talmud), from kedusha to chol. We look at the importance of knowledge to distinguish between holy and profane, between Shabbat and weekday.

The Talmud connects knowledge to the creation of fire (reminiscent of Prometheus, the fire-giver who’s name means “forethought.”) Knowledge means morality, knowing right from wrong. And it leads to the ultimate knowledge of Gd.

  • Daf Yomi One Week at a Time: Bava Batra with Rabbanit Dr. Tamara Spitz: Lesson 16: Daf 106-112

This week we will learn that when a person sells a field “with its borders”, he means approximately. Therefore, if he errs in his measurement by less than a sixth, it's a valid sale. If it's more than a sixth, the buyer must pay for the extra land or return it. We will then begin Chapter 8 which discusses the laws of inheritance. We will learn who takes precedence over whom when a family member passes away to that land.

  • Hoshanot In Depth with Rabbi Yehoshua Geller: Episode 3

The Yamim Noraim, the High Holidays, start with Rosh Hashanah and end with Sukkot. Initially, while the focus of our prayers the month preceding Rosh Hashanah through Yom Kippur are on teshuvah, the Hoshanat prayers of Sukkot go back to temple times and focus on protecting the natural world from humans to plants, and so on.

Join Rabbi Yehoshua Geller as he explores the significance of Hoshanot in the Beit Hamikdash as אנא ה הושיעה נא would be said while surrounding the altar and how that translates to our practice of Hoshanot today.

  • Daf Yomi One Week at a Time: Bava Batra with Rabbanit Dr. Tamara Spitz: Lesson 15: Daf 99-105

This week we will learn about someone who owns a cistern on someone else's property. He has the right to access it during the day but not at night. If someone has a public path through his field, he cannot decide to move that path. If he does, he loses the rights to the original and new paths. We will also learn how people were buried in the time of the Mishna and Gemara and what rights people had to that land.

  • Rambam’s Sefer HaMada: Hilchot Teshuva with Rabbi Dovid Ebner: Episode 3

Join Rabbi Dovid Ebner for this special Yeshivat Hamivtar alumni series: A close reading of selected chapters covering all 5 sections of Rambam’s Sefer HaMada (Book of Knowledge). The goals are pedagogical in terms of actually plumbing the depths of Rambam’s thought through a close reading of the text. For example, what does it mean to command the love of God or of our fellow man… or what is the ideal of human character and how can it be accomplished. The course is not a discussion group – it is, rather, an attempt to understand what Rambam maintains by weighing and analyzing his words carefully and precisely

  • Daf Yomi One Week at a Time: Bava Batra with Rabbanit Dr. Tamara Spitz: Lesson 14: Daf 93-98

This week we will learn that when a person buys produce, he accepts a certain percentage of impurities in the sale. When the buyer says he wants to buy wine for cooking, he is really telling the seller that it must last for a long time.  If a person sells wine and later on it is spoiled, the seller isn’t responsible
