  • K&C - Mila Carter, 4, acute lymphoblastic, Dedham with her parents, Rich and Natasha, and older sister, Olivia 8-21-18

In April 2017, Mila had a bloody nose for hours. No matter what the family tried, it would not stop bleeding. After a visit to the ER, she was diagnosed with ALL.

Mila's treatment includes chemotherapy and is planned to end in April 2019.

In her spare time, Mila loves to do arts & crafts, dance, dramatic play, gymnastics and dress-up.

She has an older sister, Olivia, 6.

    Mila currently attends pre-school.

The Jimmy Fund Clinic has become the family's second home. They feel that the staff,  doctors, and other families have a deep understanding of what each other is going through.

Mila always says "hi" to Wally outside the Jimmy Fund Clinic.

  • K&C - Hannah Packman, 19, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Weston with Deborah Bond Berk, LICSW, Senior Clinical Social Worker, Jimmy Fund Clinic, Dana-Farber 8-21-18

At 3 years old, Hannah had a bad cold and fever. As it seemed to be getting better, her joints became extremely sore, which prevented her from walking. She then developed a high fever.

Hannah was diagnosed in September 2002 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

She underwent chemotherapy from 2002-2004. Her port-o-catheter was removed the day after her sixth birthday.

One of the things that she most vividly remembers was the playroom in the Jimmy Fund Clinic. She spent hours doing arts & crafts, playing on the “ship” (big boat structure the Clinic used to have), playing with Polly Pockets, and hanging out with her Clinic friends.

Hannah's hobbies include singing (she is in an acapella group), soccer (she doesn't play in college), and cooking.

Her family includes her parents, Jeff Packman and Karen Linde Packman, and sister, Julia, who is 22 years old and lives in New York.

In September, she will be a sophomore at Colby College in Waterville, ME. For the summer, she is interning in the Dana-Farber Communications Department.

Her grandfather, Ed Linde, was also treated at Dana-Farber and battled multiple myeloma for many years. He passed away in 2010.

Hannah’s relationship with Deborah: Deborah was always there. That is the number one thing about our relationship. No matter what was going on, she was there, whether that was when I was having shots in my leg (which I did each week for a while), getting Lumbar Punctures (which I hated more than anything in the world), or just waiting to get chemotherapy. We would play with the toys in her office, like the doll house she had, for hours on end. She provided me with these moments of relaxation and happiness even when I was feeling horrible. More importantly, looking back on it, she was such a huge support system for my entire family, especially my parents and sister.

  • K&C - Zack Easton, 11, osteosarcoma, Merrimac with his mother, Jackie 8-21-18

Zack and his mom met Kirk and Gerry during this year's Clinic visit.

In 2007, Zack injured his knee during karate class and an x-ray discovered a tumor in the upper half of his tibia.

His treatment included chemotherapy and surgery to remove the tumor/upper half of his tibia and knee and replace them with an extendable prosthetic implant.

Chemotherapy concluded in May and all scans are clear. Currently, he goes to physical therapy to help him learn to walk again.

His hobbies include playing video games, hanging with friends, boating, swimming, and karate.

His family includes Jack, his mom, Rob, his dad, Kathryn, his sister, and Socks, his cat.

He likes the Jimmy Fund Clinic because of all the games, parties, nurses and doctors.

Zack feels that everyone at the Clinic are the kindest, most wonderful and caring people. They truly go above and beyond when caring for their patients and families.  They did their best to make Zack happy during his treatments.  He was sad when they stopped having to go into Clinic every week . . . he missed all the people.

Jackie and Kathryn have walked the 5-mile portion of the Jimmy Fund Walk many times to support her and Zack's friend, Avalanna Routh, who unfortunately lost her battle.  Now knowing firsthand what the Jimmy Fund does for families, reinforces their commitment to support Dana-Farber.

  • K&C - Charlie Davies, 32, liposarcoma, Hingham 8-21-18
Charlie is a retired American professional soccer player. Born in Manchester, NH, he set several soccer records at his high school, the Brooks School, before appearing for the Boston College Eagles and the Westchester Flames in college. Charlie signed his first professional contract with Swedish Allsvenskan club Hammarby IF in December 2006 before joining Sochaux in July 2009.
Charlie has been capped seventeen times for the United States national team, with four international goals.
In October 2009, Charlie was involved in a serious car crash on the George Washington Parkway that killed a fellow passenger and left Charlie with severe injuries that kept him out of the 2010 World Cup, and effectively ended his international career.
In June 2012, Charlie married his college girlfriend, Nina, and in 2016 they welcomed twin boys, Rhys and Dakota, born 3 months premature on St. Patrick's Day.
While his wife and sons were still in the hospital, Charlie pulled his groin during a Revs game and after a concerning MRI, the trainer suggested an ultrasound, which indicated he had a mass. He was diagnosed with liposarcoma in the spring of 2016.
On the advice from a family friend who had done his residency at Dana-Farber, Charlie chose to be treated by Dr. Wagner at Dana-Farber.
He underwent surgery to have the tumor removed. He still visits Dana-Farber every 6 months to make sure he is still cancer-free.
Charlie is now a TV/Media Personality and soccer analyst and works in the New England Revolution’s front office as the Club Ambassador.
He also is writing book about his life that he hopes will inspire and motivate others.
