• Listening only is the path to self-deception

• The blessing of the Law is found through the freedom in following

Faith can’t be measured only by what we don’t do

Main Point: When God tests you with trials and suffering, he’s not tempting you, he’s aiming to reveal himself and deepen and refine your love for him

The primary message of the book of James is our steadfast faith in the gospel should work itself out in a life of persevering obedience

Suffering is God’s painful path to joy (verse 12)

Where  temptation comes from; how it works; and where it leads (vv. 13-15)

Knowing God’s goodness and the power of the gospel is essential in overcoming temptation. (vv. 16-18)

The trials we so often despise and avoid are often the God-given means of growing our faith.

A posture of joy amid life’s trials keeps our eyes focused on the goal of spiritual growth in Christ

The Provision of Wisdom (1:5-8)

Remaining steadfast under trial requires the provision of wisdom from God

Do we really believe that God’s wisdom is sufficient for navigating the troubles of this fallen world? Or are we hedging our bets by listening to other voices as well?

A Spiritual Perspective (1:9-11)

God’s wisdom gives us a spiritual perspective
