"I'm looking for a new video card for my PC and they're hard to find right now. I'm playing Fortnite and my video card is starting to become outdated. What is a reasonably priced option for that?"

Jeff, affordable but powerful is tricky in the world of graphics cards.

As you probably know, a GEFORCE RTX 3080 card will normally retail for around $700 to $800 depending on the specific one you choose, for example an MSI GEFORCE RTX 3080 retails for $699, but an EVGA or PNY GEFORCE RTX 3080 retails for about $799.

Neither of those options will be easy to find these days and it's not rare to find them for sale online by resellers for $2500 or even more.

That may be too much for just Fortnite anyway, but will run into similar issues with most graphics cards these days. For example, under normal circumstances you could buy a Radeon RT 5700 XT for less than the RTX 3080s would cost, but it's also largely sold out these days. We've seen them listed online for anywhere between $1100 to $2700.

You could look at a less powerful option like an ASUS GEFORCE RTX 3060, but again while the retail price would be around $330 currently they're sold out and you may find yourself paying $1000 somewhere like eBay.

That's all to say that, if you can wait, don't buy anything today. You'll spend more and get less than if you give it some time and let manufacturers catch up to the demand.

It's a very, very bad time to try to land a card right now and you definitely will not be getting any good deals.
