And I just want your opinion Dave, on which one I should go with. I know what Chris would say - "get an Apple" but I've had nothing but great luck with this Note 8 and I was just thinking of upgrading before troubles start."

Tommy, The newest Note seems to be the Note 20.

To give you a few comparisons between your current Note 8 and the newer Note 20

The Note 8 runs on an octacore Samsung Exynos 9 processor with 6GB of RAM, the Note 20 runs on a newer version of that processor with twice that much RAM.The Note 20 has a slightly larger screen, with roughly the same resolution.

And I do think the best solution is to get an iPhone Im kidding, of course! In my defense, the reason I tout the iPhone so much is that Im a creature of habit and Im used to it. Ive been using iPhones since they came out in 2007 so Im familiar with their operation, and am not looking to learn how to use a new OS right now!

Back to your comparison, Tommy The Note 20 does offer double the storage as the 8 does, but it also has pretty absurd cameras that will eat all of it up. The Note 8 has two 12MP cameras, the Note 20, however, has three cameras - a 12MP, a 48MP AND a 108MP - and its capable of 8K video.

The Note 20 has a higher capacity battery than the Note 8 and uses an on-screen fingerprint reader, unlike the 8s, which is on the back. Also, if 5G is important, the Note 20 supports it, while the 8 does not.

The Note 20 is the clear winner here between the two, but there really doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the Note 8 that would require an upgrade yet except for the fact that Samsung will no longer update it. That may be enough to warrant ditching what would otherwise still be a solid phone (mostly since security updates appear to be out of the picture too).
