Betty Anne in Windsor, Ontario listens on AM800 CKLW and asked: "We don't have a smart TV and we'd like to get some earphones for it but none of them seem to work. Do you have any recommendations for that? Also - I have an Apple11 phone and I can't figure out how to do the "screen time." it goes off in like 15 seconds or something, so I'd really appreciate an answer on that."

Betty Anne,Well tackle your first question first - the kind of headphones your TV can take will depend on the TV itself. Even if its not a SmartTV its probably worth checking to make sure its not Bluetooth compatible.

Some TVs that were not smart still used to offer Bluetooth as an option to allow them to be connected to wireless speakers but dont hold your breath.

If thats not an option, you can look for regular headphone jacks. If the TV includes one of those, you can use wireless headphones that can plug into a regular headphone jack or you can buy a Bluetooth dongle that will plug into that port and broadcast to a pair of regular Bluetooth headphones.

You may be able to do something similar if the TV has those old fashioned red and white RCA outputs as well. You probably wont find as many RCA to Bluetooth adapters, but you will be able to find inexpensive RCA to headphone jack adapters and once you plug those in, the options that I already mentioned becomes available to you.

Its worth noting that if you introduce more and more devices between your TV and your headphones, your chances of having issues go up. Having said that, that set up is likely to get you what you need and wont have a big price tag.

Now As for your iPhone issue... go to your Settings app, then tap on Display and Brightness and the Auto-Lock option will be there. Youll find options between 30 seconds and never, so you should be able to adjust it to something that works for you.

If youre not using FaceID, you probably should, it can detect faces and there is an option to not turn the screen off if the phone detects you looking at it. Ive found that to be very handy.
