Barry in Blacksburg, Virginia listens on 101-7 FM WRAD and asked: "I've got a question about my computer overheating, I do a lot of video editing, I have a MacBook Pro, my old MacBook Pro I could edit all day long and never had a problem with it getting to warm. I went out and bought the fancy thin MacBook Pro, a lot more powerful but the thing gets so hot within 10-15 mins of editing and starts to shut down. I did have a small usb fan I put under it that helps but it still overheats too quickly. Is there anything I can do setting- wise to not get it so hot or is there a good cooling fan system that would help me out?"

Barry, if this is a new computer, you should send it back and get a replacement, Apple is very good about that and what you’re describing is not normal for a new MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pros can handle fairly intensive tasks including video editing and it’s not typical for them to overheat and randomly shut down, especially when they’re new.

The shutdown itself is a security measure to avoid damaging any components permanently, so it’s not in itself a bad thing, but it should not happen often. And it should definitely not happen often with a professional grande $2000 computer.

You won’t be able to fix this with any software settings and the only cooling fan you should need is the internal one, if that’s not doing the trick and this is a new machine, it’s time to think about sending it back.

Gabriel in Anchorage, Alaska listens on 700AM KBYR "Alaska Talks Here" and asked: "I used to use a program called Pingzapper to avoid slow internet bandwidth but they charge a per month fee. and I would like to find a way to do it manually, if I can. I'd like to merge multiple network adapters. Is there a way to do this or a free option?"

Gabriel, Pingzapper is a VPN network aimed at lowering ping time for gamers, so we assume you’re a gamer? If you aren’t we’d be surprised if you could really tell the difference when it’s on.

Unfortunately, since Pingzapper and their competitors like WTFast rely on actual physical gear, and optimized gear at that, so you won’t be able to manually emulate that, and you won’t be able to get the service for free, since it’s not free for the people providing it.

These are fairly specialized services, though, most people who play Fortnite don’t worry about how fast the response from the server is, you may find out that it doesn’t make all that much difference in your gaming results if you stop paying for it.
