Ray in Niagara Falls, New York listens to the podcast and asked: "I was interested in the backup camera. The wireless one for the older vehicles. I was wondering what frequency they transmit the video signal on and if it would interfere with a CB radio or if a CB radio would interfere with the transmission of the camera."

Ray, backup cameras typically transmit over 2.4 GHz (roughly the WiFi/Bluetooth frequency).

CB radios operate on frequencies that range from 26.9650 MHz to 27.4050 MHz. That means that there’s no overlap between the two and they should not interfere with each other in any way.

If you think about it, you want your wireless camera to put out just enough of a signal to reach only within the car (or as close to only within the car as possible) and you want the CB radio to reach as far as it can outside the car, so it makes sense that the frequencies would be very, very different.

If you don’t mind a tougher installation you can get a wired kit too, but that will be a lot more work. If your only concern is the signal interfering with your CB radio, it shouldn’t be a problem.

This shouldn’t cause any more interference that a phone’s WiFi connection, or a Bluetooth connection to a handsfree speaker system.
