  • Pride - A Distorted View of Reality

Pride is like a drug or strong drink... under its influence we do not have a clear head... we are not thinking soberly... our grip on reality is looser

The proud person is intoxicated with... their self… they have a distorted view of who they are… that leads to an unwarranted self confidence and puts us into conflict with reality... Pride puts you in conflict with the living God who is the creator and sustainer of our reality…

James 4:6 God resists the proud but shows favor to the humble.

  • Lust of the Flesh - A Root Cause of Evil and Sin

The lust of the flesh is a way of saying strong desires built into the physical body. God gave us strong desires for sex, food, and rest... but we must learn to manage these pulls of the flesh in the manner, and for the purpose, they were intended by the creator. We accomplish this through self control.

  • The Just Shall Live By Faith

The book of Habakkuk teaches us throughout that the just will live by faith... one of the most important biblical principles is found in this ancient prophetic book. Truly, the righteous shall live by faith!

Habakkuk cries out "how long o Lord". Habakkuk sees the decay and decline of his beloved Judah. He has been praying to God to intervene... but nothing is happening... God is not punishing the evil doers... and Habakkuk asks "how long until you act"?

God is going to help Habakkuk understand by giving him a big picture view of God’s plan for dealing with the nations like babylon. Having this long range view builds faith… it gives meaning and purpose to human experience, human suffering, and human history. So, knowing the big picture [and the scripture that backs it up] is worth your attention.

The righteous will live by faith!

  • The Offering of the First Fruits and the Feast of Weeks

The Feast of Weeks is the third annual biblical festival. Its timing and meaning are intimately bound up with the offering of the first fruits to God.

The feast of weeks comes at the end of a countdown of 7 weeks beginning the day after the weekly Sabbath that occurs during the festival of unleavened bread. The last day of this 7 week period is a holy day… also known as Pentecost, it is the feast of weeks Leviticus 23:15-16.

The period of counting begins with a wave offering of the first fruits of the barley harvest. The period of counting ends with a wave offering of first fruits from the wheat harvest.

These offerings of first fruits are highly significant to new covenant Christians. You owe it to yourself to learn more about the Feast of Weeks and the offering of the first fruits.

  • The Fear of God is the Beginning of Wisdom

Fear of God is not a popular concept. A lot of us seem to think that God should be understood primarily as our friend, our buddy, our partner. Its is true God wants to have a joyous, peaceful relationship with you and me... but losing or even downplaying a proper fear of God will lead to disaster.

  • When Does The Sabbath Day Begin

The bible presents us with a very simple way of reckoning the beginning and end of each day. According to the bible each day of the week begins and ends with the setting of the sun. Using the sunset gives us a simple way of determining each day based on observation rather than advanced knowledge of the solar system available only to a learned few.

  • Council of Nicea and the History of the Passover

Our purpose today is to use references from written history to demonstrate that the Church Jesus established observed the biblical Passover on the 14th of Aviv/Nisan for the first 200 years of its existence. And that is was only after significant political pressure that most christian congregations changed the date of this observance to what is now called Easter Sunday.

  • Get Yourself Out of Sinful Situations

The 7 day feast of unleavened bread follows the observance of the Passover… which is fitting since It pictures what must take place after the Passover. The central theme and message of the days of unleavened bread is addressing the ongoing problem of sin.

Each Passover is a memorial of Jesus death which pays the penalty we earned through our past sins. After the wonderful forgiveness and redemption comes the long painful process of separating our self from sin. Even for the believing baptism person... the problem of sin remains and must be confronted 1 John 1:8 - 2:6.

Our purpose today is to discuss two approaches to the ongoing problem of sin:

    1. Getting sin out of our lives [pictured by removal of leaven from our homes]
    2. Getting our self out of sin [Getting our self out of sin being removed from the society and culture of Egypt … their outlook on life, what they considered good and evil]

  • End Time Deception and the False Prophet of Revelation

The end time is marked by an intense period of deception. The false prophet of revelation has the power to perform impressive signs and wonders... how will you avoid becoming deceived?

Jesus warned us o false teachers and false prophets who would rise up and deceived many people. That spiritual deception was afoot during the days of the apostles but will intensify as we approach the time of the end.

The false prophet of revelation will rise up out of the earth and conspire with the beast of the sea to deceive the people of the earth using amazing sings and wonders to convince people.

In this message we will look at biblical criteria for discerning true prophets from false. Plus, we will take a look at a classic confrontation between a false and a true prophet in Jeremiah 28 were the false prophet Hananiah is confronted by Jeremiah.
