When there's no time to think you gotta make a gut call

put this one together in about 1 hour and 15 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. A couple quick patterns and recorded a raw bass over top. Didnt give myself time to think about much.

Let's do some Bagpipe Rock. My apologies in advance.

Image is from Scotland - Carbisdale Castle is in the distance. At that time, it was a hostel where my family was staying for a few days. Beautiful photography is set on easy mode in Scotland.

This track came about from a comment last week from rdomain:

It got me thinking about the extensive use of drones I've had lately...and how I should try doing that with guitar! I didn't want to loop or have continuous pick noises (or attempt to get feedback from an amp) so I went the easy route - I used a Soundstone sustainer. It's the same idea as an Ebow...but cheaper, and also a lot fussier :) It was fun to experiment with how the string would settle in to the fundamental harmonic. I used the whammy bar on my Strat to give some slight variation to the note during the drone. I recorded a couple of lines until I was done...and it turned out they were the exact length I needed for what the intro wanted to be.

The melody came out when I first noodled against those drones (an A and a D). It feels...familiar? I don't think it's a trad melody, but I think it's probably similar to a bunch of them. I thought it was fun to sort of invert the structure I've been doing lately, and have there guitars come in hard, but free form....and then end with the traditional feeling melody.

The bridge fell into place structurally pretty fast, but it took a bit to figure out what wanted to go there. Guitar solo? Whistle? Bagpipe chanter? Choir? No no no no. I abandoned it for a while and went to finish the end. That's when I figured out that it made the most sense to sort of foreshadow that change at the end and let the drum line have a go.

No recorder this week! It's a pennywhistle in D. Bagpipe sounds are from EastWest Ra, percussion is from Symphonic Orchestra (with some plugs to beef it up). The ending stemmed from a track I made in '25, where I recreated the feel of a pipe band on the street. I wanted the track to end with that feel, of the band marching away.

Still didn't have a title. So, I did what I always do in that situation and asked Dr Frog. As per normal, she nailed it <3

Wow week 37 already! Started figuring out the arpeggiator on the M8X which is what you hear with the keys. I like how it came out. Threw in some drone and brass to go along with things. This one feels like a little more positive energy than what I typically produce. Let me know your thoughts.

First song in the new apartment / Studio. Atm its sadly an empty room and i tried using my speakers so after listening back to it on my airpods it seems i sat right in a mode of my room which made the bass disappeat. Since im already back at the old place to sleep i cant really fix it anymore so brace your ears for LOTS of bass lol
