Ok, it's time to stop running from the scary things and start doing it.

No vocals this time, but all instruments jammed and played and recorded with no midi.

This and next weeks will be a drop in quality but will be going in a direction I really want to go (but it's scary). So no more running away, let's go.

(also, string players, wtf, you live like that? My fingers hurt :( )

This week felt like a bit of a reset. It's been a few weeks since I wrote a piece with a bit more of a traditional structure. I also got myself a knock off Ebow as a treat to reintroduce a bit of guitar.

Yet, this felt a bit autopilot, I didn't really know where it was heading and there were a number of abandoned routes. I think that shows, this never really stays in lane, and also doesn't quite resolve how I wanted. But, it has moments! Isn't that all things are after a while?

A jazzy tune done in Ableton Note. I am not sure how ai feel about being so productive in Note. I was always more productive with hardware. Anyway. I really like the attitude coming out in the beat, keys and brass.

This one features D-Car and Mafooo. I'm the 2nd verse. This was the first time I had done ad-libs with my mix. It was honestly really fun and made a huge difference in the end. I love trying different types of music and learning how they are best mixed. Gives great ideas for other songs.

The bass sample was my other buddy Matty G on the stand up. Lots of fun mixing and creating this one. Enjoy!

At one of the colleges I teach at, I'm the director of the guitar ensemble amongst other things. I've moved their direction from performance based to composition and recording yet still rehearsing as a group.  This is an attempt at me demonstrating a compositional idea where each picked two random notes from a selected scale; from the row six notes, they were to move through at their own pace.  When recording though, the player can't hear the previously recorded parts, creating a pseudo canon piece.

This was recorded quickly just using my laptop mic with some room noise etc so I decided to create a mix to emulate an old cassette recording.  I also slowed the tempo to half the speed and shifted one part down the octave for a bass part, then added tape delays/noise etc.

I made 3 loops to start instead of 2 like I normally do, so it gave me more freedom to mix stuff later. Not sure if it is good or is just too busy. I like how it raises at the end.
