I started off this week's track as a 165BPM Rave track, but somehow it felt too fast for what I came up with, so I pitched it down to 148BPM. I'd still say it's rave :D

The track title is dedicated to the train I took on Saturday that according to the public transport app from the Deutsche Bahn had "medium demand expected" that was filled to the brim with people and where I did most of the arrangement work

This one is just to get through the week.

Although, was nice to make time and work for a bit. I started with something longer and more complex but I kept removing things. I wanted the beeps to constrast with the droning of the strings and tones. Playful and curious, but dark and moody. Basically the noise of the ER, noise, strange beeps which also sound a bit like birds talking to each other, and then no noise. That sounds so omnious and my mom i joked about how we liked watching all the drama unfold while we were there. Hundreds of stories unfolding while our story unfolded. Constrasts too.  My mom is home now, but yeah it was a week.

After throwing away two different ideas that were getting nowhere. One last attempt, just kick and bass, using a midi gate instead of regular side-chain compression.

Probably one of my weirder moments this year for sure... This track started with some weird noises made on the new firmwares of the Bastl Kastles, plus running an AM radio through the FX wizard. This gave me a wealth of odd sounds, but I felt like I wanted to do something more upbeat that I have recently. I looked at a few 'fun' albums I loved, and M83's 'Junk' came to mind.. Now. I am not Steve Vai, nor did I pay him, and if I had paid him, I would ask for my money back, but I *did* think, why not put a guitar solo in?

The audio samples pull from public domain recordings of Aesops Fables, then get mangled a lot.

this song was originally recorded (with vocals & down-tuned acoustic guitar) for Jon Solomon's 25 hour Holiday Radio Show Marathon in 2023. it wasn't holly jolly, more staring down religious trauma & existential angst. you know, a real pick-me-up toe-tapper :)

i really loved the strings & sax, and ended up doing an instrumental mix with more space to highlight those parts. this has been sitting unfinished for a while, but as it will be included on the patsy presents MISC. TAPE Vol.02, it was time to finalize it.

Honestly, I got bored with this pretty quickly, then the mixing just went out the window as I was trying to get away from just mixing with headphones which always ends up sounding trash on speakers. I put my monitors on and had a go, but it just got worse and worse til the point I just threw my hands up. The bongos are way too loud, the bass sounds weak on headphones but too loud on speaker. I absolutely hate mixing and mastering, it's the antithesis of creativity.

At the end of the Chtonic Stairwell (see week 36), we arrive in a dome hall where remain the trace of a Forgotten Ceremony. The air is heavy, charged with the intent of past ritualists.

This is the 6th part of an long-form ambient piece I'm creating on the Synthstrom Deluge. At some point I should figure out a way to finish it but this is not the day.
