I recently release another (free) terminal based synth called Lunar84 Terminal, which is the sister app to my previous terminal based software Dronage Terminal. While Dronage Terminal was kind of a "set it and forget it" ambient machine, Lunar84 Terminal encourages you to play it live. It's heavily inspired by Solar42 (as the name implies) but slightly bent to my liking. And this week's tune was composed (more like played live) with it.

Another week without many ideas, so I made a track only with the 3x OSC in FL Studio. It ended up being just made up of slightly altered sine waves, triangle waves, and white noise. In the end it reminded me a bit of the Mario castle. I want to get more into sound design eventually; there is a lot to learn!

This uses phrygian dim 4th scale which pleasantly surprised me. In the past I was addicted to doing descending major seconds and this lets you do it as much as you want. Also I hope you enjoy my favorite progression E C E D then Db A Db B then Bb G C A. It happens again right at the end.

This is the final song using Night of the Living Dead samples. This one is from the last 20 minutes of the film. It was a fun learning experience to put these together using nothing but movie samples. I have never paid such close attention to a soundtrack. I think I can now make a kick or snare or glitch out of almost anything. What remains challenging for me is using a longer sample creatively -- I tried in this one to use the last 1-2 minutes of the movie as a basemap and plug in shorter patterns on top of it. The problem is maintaining some kind of separation between the long and short samples. They all kind of mush together. Maybe it's a mixing thing. Will probably circle back to this kind of structure later in the year, try again!

As part of my goal to use every instrument I own this year, I've made a lapharp/psaltery + Dirtywave M8 cover of the US American folk song "The Wayfaring Stranger." First printed in 1853 as part of a collection of popular folk music, this song has unknown authorship, though it's commonly thought to have been composed by African Americans

My cover uses:

* A lapharp/psaltery, for which I used a contact mic to run it through overdrive and a Rainbow Machine pedal (where the rising modulation comes from)

* A long Ebow drone on my bass

* Impbox's IMP_TRUMPET M8 preset, for the two solos I've written https://www.impbox.net/matey/IMP_TRUMPET

* All other percussion are also M8 synths

Had a lot of fun making this track this week had some time to sit down and make a bassline and worked out some synth parts i like this track but needs a little something more maybe a guitar or some vocals but it's a good start and my add to it later
