This week I was really weary, I had a lot of other commitments (including church band!) and my energy was really low, so I couldn't spend much time on this.

I started out by building the main pad sound you can hear at the start (using a method I saw on YouTube) and my thought was to make some old school liquid drum and bass - PS2 stylee. Well... It ended up becoming some ethereal trance! This is the type of music I started out trying to make 25 years ago - I was really into trance music back then. I mean, it was really big in 1999-early 2000s.

So I've come full circle now. Where to next? :]

I am sick guys. Got the flu vaccine; still got the flu. :/

WB is tough. I get that it's a personal challenge but I'm never quite sure how to define the rules for myself. This week I worked a lot on a gameboy version of the Evangelion theme (A Cruel Angel's Thesis) and a 20 minute set of gameboy chiptune/vaporwave type stuff. I don't feel like a cover would count and the chipwave stuff is mostly me trying to link existing material into a seamless live set, so I'm not going to count that either.

That leaves me with various random noodles I worked on this week. This is basically me trying out some sort of not-very-roboctopus style LSDJ. I wanted to do a sort of groovy low-key bass workout. I think it has some cool bits in it, but I'm frankly not sure what to do with it haha, since it's sort of outside my usual way of working. It seemed to want to sit on the groove and I usually work toward some sort of climax or something. I dunno. Maybe I'll revisit this. I guess it could kind of work as background music in a game though. A loop for some underground ruins exploration.

A japanese version of levelcapybara's mahou shoujo, shining heart!

Capy reached out to me to do some english Miku vocals on their track this week, which I couldn't turn down! I'm not massively big on her english voicebank (looking forward to the new one which is hopefully better) but it came together nicely - I think due to the banger vocal melody and backing track capy created.

This version born from wanting a break from dealing with english Miku's inability to say "knights" the way I wanted it for like 30 mins :D To fit the song into japanese, I had to rewrite most of the lyrics, so a fair amount of the original intent is lost, unfortunately, but so things go.

This time we are working with samples from the fourth 20 minutes of Night of the Living Dead. This is the part of the movie where all their plans start to fall apart. The track ended up more meditative than anything else, picking up a saxophone sample (one of the few (only one?) I've heard so far) and building around the uniqueness of that sound.

Once again using WB as an excuse to learn or improve my knowledge of some feature of a machine I own, while slowly getting, again, covered in fucking snow. I'm done with this weather 🤬

This time it is the turn of the Octatrack, which I had not touched  for a hot minute, and its arranger mode, which I never really used before.

I really only used the OT as a machine for live performance in the past and never bothered with the arranger, but I can see myself using this more in the future. It was a breeze to cough up this track in only a couple of days and it was a really enjoyable process. I can still feel the tracker lineage on the machine but the interface allows a much faster workflow, exactly one of the reasons why I fell in love with the OT. The supporting role on this track is for the TD-3 with the acid bassline, sampled into the OT.

I still need to get used to it and the transitions became a bit of a problem so this track is a little bit "raw in the middle" and made in a real rush, but I am quite happy with the result, for a first attempt.

This is a recording straight from the stereo out of the OT, lightly maximized for oomph.

Damn I missed last week, I dont feel too good about that, but I can't give up.

I was working on a silly game project in which you jump to music, somewhat similar to necrodancer minus the frustration/challange of that game. I had this idea of making it about centered all around electronic music culture from drum programming to funktion one's and everything in between, and getting player "in trance".

I most likely won't finish the project but I just felt the urge to make a loop for fun then I started working on dynamic music where different layers depending on what's happening during that movement. I experimented a bit with adding distortion when player is missing a lot of beats.

Then I cameback to that loop, and started expanding to different patterns and it turned out to be a small beat with lots of distortion and nasty 808.
