Spotlight on three Professionals and their take on Black Lives Matter and Colorblindness
Maya Nicholson, Social Worker & Former Student from Fort Wayne, Indiana
"Well, me personally, I just want to touch on the people saying that they don't see color. Sometimes I think that's a BS. I'm just going to say [that], because people do see color. Well, some people do see color and it's like, people will make fun of you because the way your hair looks, stuff like that. And my kids that I work with, some of them would say, Johnny at school told me that my hair was too nappy or it was too curly. [I would tell them], this is you, no one can make you feel a certain way about yourself. [Because] if you like it, I love it.

Janiyah Woods, Medical Assistant & Former Student from Fort Wayne, Indiana currently residing in Chattanooga, Tennessee
"I also feel as if they see it as a joke, because if that's just like the whole Floyd situation, there were videos going around of other races with their knees on people's necks as if it was a joke. Or they would make videos of, themselves coloring themselves black and think it's funny. I just think they just see all of this that we're going through as human beings, as black people. That is all a joke."
Ms. Woods works with a Doctor's Office and is looking to further her education and become a Labor & Delivery Nurse. She can be reached at 260-580-8680.
Adrienne Santos, Super Mom, Home Health Aide & Education Professional from Fort Wayne, Indiana
"What we have to remember about the media is it's all about ratings. So the words that they're going to use are going to be the ones that are going to draw people in, make them want to read their story, or click on their link or turn on the news, whatever the cover story is. So they're going for the trigger words, they know the pulse, they know the heartbeat of America. They know what we're listening to and know what will set us off."
Mrs. Santos works at a Charter School and specializes in Behavior Modification and Office Administration. She can be reached at [email protected].
