Welcome to the White Lotus

Hey all, here’s another bonus episode, this time on the crazy new Apple TV show, Pluribus.

Pluribus is the latest show from Breaking Bad creator, Vince Gilligan, who in our book is one of the all-time great TV creators. His writing is intelligent, meticulous, unexpected, and wry, and this show is wild. It’s very Twilight Zone-y. Creepy, thought provoking, thrilling, extremely odd in the best way, and super fun.

If you haven’t tried it, we definitely recommend you give it a shot! And then, of course, listen to this podcast. And if you end up getting subsumed into the collective, we’ll be covering the rest of the season on Wax Episodic, available wherever you get podcasts, or at waxepisodic.com.

PS If you’ve been a Podcastica listener for awhile, you might be interested know that the hosts for this podcast are me (Jason) and Karen, who started this network 15 years ago with The Walking Dead ‘Cast. So much fun podcasting with Karen again!

Bonus Episode: Introducing Wax Episodic

Hi, Jason here. This is a special bonus episode reposted from my new podcast, Wax Episodic, where I cover top-tier, story-rich TV shows one season at a time with different co-hosts.

We’re kicking things off with Alien: Earth, and I wanted to share the first episode here so you can check it out. If you like it, please consider subscribing to Wax Episodic — it’s my new podcast home, and you can find it at waxepisodic.com.

PS Randy and I had a blast podcasting White Lotus with Jenny — and I’m stoked to be teaming up with him again for this new series.

Alien: Earth S1E1&2: “Neverland” & “Mr. October”

The wait is over — Alien: Earth has landed, and Noah Hawley’s first two episodes deliver everything we hoped for: suspense, grotesque alien terrors, strange new lifeforms, and a sharp look at how unchecked corporate ambition could shape our future — in a series that (at least so far) feels both classic and brand new. Join Jason, Randy, and Kara as we dig into “Neverland” and “Mr. October.”

Next up on Wax Episodic: Alien: Earth S1E3 “Metamorphosis”!

One great thing about a show like The White Lotus that has so much subtext, gray area, and room for interpretation is the variety of interpretations that we all bring to it. And it was genuinely a pleasure for us to go through all your thoughtful feedback in this episode, plus a bunch of news about what Mike White and some of the actors think would happen to the characters next, among other things.

Thanks again for a great season of podcasting. If you like what you heard, please check out podcastica.com and see if there are any other shows we cover that you’d like to hear us podcast on. The Last of Us season 2 just premiered on HBO!

Wow, what a freaking great episode of television this was. Yep. We were wowed. It was tragic and sublime. Beautiful, terrible, and moving. Inspiring and thought provoking. And we had a lot to say.

Thank you to everyone who listened along with us this season! We had a blast. We’re doing one more episode later this week with more of your feedback and news about the show, so we’ll talk to you then.

So would you take the $100k or rat Greg out? That’s just one of the many questions we ponder this week as Jason, Jenny, and Randy are joined by Randy’s wife Becca to talk it out.

In this episode about how we sometimes cling to the well-worn paths in life, at least one part of the story goes way the f#%k off into uncharted territory, and we’re glad to be joined by our friend Jenny Ryan to help try and make sense of it all.

Well, okay then. I mean you know this is all your fault for complaining nothing was happening on this show, right? Just kidding, but what an episode — all about fluidity of identity, losing inhibitions, and the never-ending carousel of lust and suffering — and we were pretty fascinated with all of it. The wheels have come off the bus.

The White Lotus may be a slow burn, but we always find it a fascinatingly, engagingly watchable one. This week we particularly enjoyed Lochlan’s “posture correction” session that turned out to be a disconcertingly accurate look into his soul (lol), Rick’s outing to get some weed, and yeah even Laurie, Jaclyn, and Kate talking politics.

Next up: The White Lotus S3E4 “Hide or Seek”. Once you’ve seen it, let us know your thoughts.

Welcome everyone. Please sit back, relax, and enjoy an eclectic blend of soothing, relaxing backbiting, armed robbery, and confusing sexual dynamics among siblings in that special way that only The White Lotus can deliver. Lol.
