“Abortion is not controversial,” says Wisconsin State Senator Kelda Roys. “We are the vast majority, time and again, in survey after survey, decade after decade, even in Wisconsin. People want to see abortion legal; they don’t want it to be a crime.”

“Right now in Wisconsin, abortion is safe and legal, but this criminal abortion ban is in the books, so we do have to be prepared,” says Representative Francesca Hong.

Leading up to next week’s special session on abortion in the Wisconsin legislature, host Ali Muldrow speaks with four local elected officials about the fight for reproductive rights in the state and how to prepare for the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Senator Kelda Roys and Representative Lisa Subeck are co-authors of the Abortion Rights Preservation Act, which would repeal Wisconsin’s 1849 law that criminalizes abortion.

Representative Francesca Hong represents Wisconsin State Assembly District 76.

Senator Melissa Agard represents District 16 in the Wisconsin Senate.
