Together we’re invited to consider which thresholds God is already opening—and which doors within us and our community may need to be opened so Christ can be more fully present.

In this sermon on Gospel of Mark 1:1–11, we practice a slower, more attentive way of reading Scripture. Instead of rushing to interpretation, we pause.  Rather than separating into camps or settling for “agree to disagree,” this way of reading makes room for multiple voices to gather around the same text.   This practice, Green Reading, begins with a deeper hope: that while interpretations may conflict, God cannot be divided.  Beneath our disagreements, there is still something true, strong, and beautiful to be discovered—something we can recognize together and genuinely rejoice in.   At Jesus’ baptism, heaven is torn open, the Spirit descends, and God speaks—not with argument or explanation, but with love: “You are my beloved. With you I am well pleased.” This message invites us to see Scripture not as a battleground or a test of correctness, but as a shared space where God still speaks clearly—calling us back to what holds, what unites, and what remains when everything else is pulled apart.

Today we are focusing on finding our word or phrase for the year. Something to speak to us and guide us in meaningful and deeper changes with God. Rather than telling God our word, we are following Jesus words to ask and learn to receive. (Matthew 7:7-11)

What happens when those in power use fear to control, manipulate and silence—and we choose not to let it be the end of our story? In a world shaped by anxious power, false alarms, and real threats, pastor Gerald’s message from the story of the Magi, King Herod, and the newborn King Jesus in Matthew 2 invites us to notice where God is already at work and how trust can lead us another way.

We all know what it’s like to be afraid. In Matthew 2, we’re invited to look closely at who walks the fear-fueled road with us— and how our responses to fear might push us toward or pull us away from the newborn king. (Matthew 2:1-23)
