We're so excited to share once more with our audience a special episode. This time we get to meet a dear friend of Philadelphia Gospel Movement, Pastor Vito Baldini.

Vito Baldini is a native Philadelphian who has served the city for more than a decade. An ordained minister in the Reformed Church of America, he has a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies from Cairn University and a Masters of Divinity from Biblical Theological Seminary. 

As Pastor of Mercy for the (former) Liberti Center City Church (now Resurrection) and Liberti Mainline, he became experienced with urban ministry in Philadelphia. He oversees Emmanuel Ministry, which provides a hot meal to those experiencing homelessness, as well as other social and medical services. He also partnered with more than 90 churches as director of the Easter Outreach ministry, which annually provided 10,000 Easter meals throughout the region. 

More than a year ago, Vito left the church to become a missionary to the city. As such, he serves as the Director of Mercy and Justice for the Liberti Network and also as Executive Director of Small Things Inc. Small Things is a non-profit food distributor that partners with Philabundance to give away about 8.3 million pounds of food to 100 community pantries in 2021. 

In 2019, Vito received an award from Social Innovations Journal for healthy food access for people experiencing homelessness in Center City Philadlphia. In 2020, the Philadelphia Council of Clergy gave Vito the Martin Luther King Jr. Servant Leader Award. In 2021, he and Small Things were honored by Philabundance with the Hunger Hero award. And in September 2021, at the Hispanic Heritage Ceremony sponsored by Concilio, Vito and Small Things were named Volunteer of the Year.

THE PEOPLE

God’s people have always been called to reveal His glory. The Church uniquely reflects God's beautiful oneness as it displays unity amid diversity among believers from every tribe, tongue, and nation.

THE PROBLEM

Since the first century, the Church has not only been beautifully diverse but also tragically divided. Too often, we view fellow Christian leaders and congregations as competitors instead of family. We tend to separate rather than unite.

THE PURPOSE

The Church exists to reveal God's manifold wisdom to the powers in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 3:10). Its role is to showcase the rich diversity of God’s counsel and the many expressions of His power interconnected in a robust reconciled community.

THE PRAXIS

At Netzer, we pursue functional unity in the Body of Christ. As trust grows among leaders, churches, and ministries, so does our capacity for gospel mobilization and regional impact. Together, we seek the Lord’s guidance for how the Church in our region can live out its mission—faithfully and effectively—as one.

CALVARY CHAPEL WORD OF LIFE

Calvary Chapel Word of Life was born out of a Bible Study in the YMCA in North Philadelphia lead by Pastor Mark Abrams. This study was simply a group of believers coming together who had a hunger for the truth. The desire and emphasis of this ministry was to teach through the entire bible verse by verse, as Paul told those in Ephesus, "For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God". This small bible study continued to grow as the Word of God was being taught and became a church plant. Seeking to reach the community with the gospel the Lord afforded this fellowship the privilege to do countless outreaches serving single moms, fatherless children and the homeless.

Calvary Chapel Word of Life considers itself a daughter church of Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia lead by Senior Pastor Joe Focht. A ministry that God has been growing for 33 years. We are also an affiliate of the international family of churches started by Pastor Chuck Smith known as the Calvary Chapel Movement.

The simplicity of our story demonstrates the essence of what Calvary Chapel is about – no show, no gimmicks, no frills – just believers in Jesus Christ who gather to learn His Word, worship Him in song, seek Him in prayer and love one another. "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers."

We're so excited to share once more with our audience a special episode. This time we get to meet a dear friend of the City of Philadelphia, Scott Smith.

Scott Smith is a Philadelphia-based spoken word artist, emcee, host, and speaker. Scott began writing and performing spoken word poetry after seeing Amena Brown Owen perform at the Jubilee Conference in 2010. Over his early journey with poetry, Scott gained inspiration from movements like Def Jam Poetry & P4CM while performing at various spoken word open mic events and churches in the Pittsburgh and Youngstown areas. Since moving to Philadelphia in 2012, Scott has had opportunities to perform locally, regionally and nationally on notable platforms including Voices in Power, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, WeGoLive, Busboys and Poets, and WAN Poetry. 

 Beyond the national spoken word scene, Scott has leveraged his gifts to serve the body of Christ specifically through performing at Christian churches, retreats, conferences, and festivals. On most months you can find Scott supporting other local poets at an open mic in Philly. He loves watching artists come into their own and grow in their gifts. In 2019, Scott and his wife Darlene founded Ripe Creatives under A.C.T. Intl.

Bill and Sharon Stevens represent the ministry of FamilyLife in PA, NJ, DE, ME, and NH by connecting with churches, businesses, military, local volunteer teams and couples for building godly marriages and families. They help equip others through the ministry of FamilyLife, such as by attending a Weekend to Remember, helping churches develop sustainable marriage ministry, helping business invest in their employees and spouses and mentoring couples to understand God's plans for putting Christ at the center of their lives and marriages. At the heart of their ministry with FamilyLife is to make disciples of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). They do this through the power of the Holy Spirit to share the gospel and help couples live out their faith in their marriage at home and their corner of the world.

Marriage and family is God’s design and is found throughout the Bible from the beginning in Genesis through Revelation. In today’s broken world many have questions about marriage and family or have experienced brokenness from trying to do things their way. As couples seek help to make these most important relationships work it is a natural opportunity to share God’s plan for marriage and the Gospel. They are honored to serve with FamilyLife and to go where He is at work in couples hearts to help couples move from isolation to oneness to impact, by them in turn helping others.

The ministry of FamilyLife started by equipping couples in ministry. This remains one of their primary focus to minister to those in ministry. A local pastor recently shared this with us after one of our marriage weekends with them. "Thank you for your investment into our marriage. We spend a lot of time pouring into others, it is nice to be poured into from others. God has blessed us with a great marriage, but we want to continue to move toward oneness and not drift into isolation. Ministry can be hard and you can feel alone so this is so helpful to keep us moving in the right direction. May God bless you for your investment in us. If God is willing to use us to help others in their marriage then it is an extension of your investment in us. Only eternity will reveal how many lives are impacted by our acts of generosity. Thank you for loving Jesus enough to invest in us."
