Content note: This episode contains discussion of addiction, domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and trauma.
What happens when following your dreams isn't about taking a leap of faith from a comfortable life...but about rebuilding a life you nearly lost?
In the first episode of our Importance of Following Your Dreams series, Sofia sits down with someone incredibly close to her, Michelle Cruz Bridges, whose story is one of survival, redemption, faith, discipline, and refusing to believe that her past had the final say.
Michelle shares her journey from addiction and human trafficking to escaping, starting over, returning to nursing school, becoming an LPN, then an RN, and earning her BSN. But this isn't a story about everything suddenly becoming easy once she “made it.” Life continued to bring grief, caregiving, motherhood, loss, and circumstances she never could have planned for.
And that's exactly what makes this conversation so powerful.
Michelle talks honestly about the years of sacrifice behind a dream—the ramen-noodle seasons, working long hours, repeating classes, therapy, leaning on family and community, asking for help, caring for her children while writing papers, and learning to stop comparing her timeline to everyone else's. Her message is simple: your dream does not have to look like anyone else's, and your life does not have to be perfect before you begin. The transcript repeatedly emphasizes family and community, living within your means, faith, therapy, self-awareness, discipline, and finding a personal reason to keep going. Michelle, We're Doing it Podcast… Michelle, We're Doing it Podcast…
This is an episode about second chances. About starting where you are. About doing what you can with what you have. And about remembering that whether you're 20, 40, 60, or 80, as long as you're still here, it is not too late to pursue something that matters to you.
Because sometimes following your dreams isn't about chasing a perfect life.
Sometimes it's about realizing you survived long enough to build one.

What is it really like to walk away from a high-control marriage and face the heavy machinery of church divorce culture? In Part 3 of our series inspired by the Netflix documentary The Death of a Pastor's Wife, Sofia is joined by a very special guest, Stephanie (name changed for anonymity), who shares her own powerful, firsthand story of surviving spiritual control, purity culture, and institutional abandonment.
Before diving into the heart of the conversation, we keep it real about the nerves, vulnerability, and awkwardness of sitting behind a microphone trying to unpack a deeply personal story. Stephanie walks us through what it felt like to be trapped in an unyielding image of "compliance," the breaking point of realizing she was never truly loved or seen as a person, and how she found the courage to reclaim her voice for the sake of her children.
Whether you're navigating your own deconstruction, trying to understand the realities of coercive control behind closed doors, or looking for hope on the other side of fear, this raw and grace-filled conversation is for you.

Why do high-control religious environments treat divorce as an unforgivable sin while quietly sweeping abuse under the rug? In Part 2 of our deep dive inspired by the Netflix documentary The Death of a Pastor's Wife, Sofia and Albert unpack the heavy emotional and spiritual toll of church divorce culture, institutional betrayal, and the painful reality of surviving high-control marriages.
Moving past surface-level judgments, we break down the critical definitions of emotional, mental, and spiritual abuse, look at how Scripture and forgiveness get weaponized to keep victims trapped, and share why leaving a toxic system often feels like a double betrayal. Plus, we share a practical red-flag checklist to help you spot coercive control and financial manipulation behind closed doors—and wrap up with a few wild, highly entertaining divorce stories from Reddit to give you a much-needed laugh after a heavy conversation.
Whether you've walked through the pain of a broken marriage or want to support someone who has, this honest, grace-filled conversation is for you.

Why do high-control religious environments and demands for absolute obedience lead to such devastating consequences? In this deeply personal episode of We're Doing It!, Sofia and Albert dive into the real-world dynamics behind the documentary The Death of a Pastor's Wife. Moving beyond the headlines, we explore how patriarchal church leadership, weaponized submission, and toxic control shape marriages behind closed doors.
Drawing from historical research on the Southern Baptist Convention, the 1984 backlash against female ordination, and our own journey of deconstructing out of high-control church systems, we look at the dangerous intersection of spiritual authority and coercive control. Plus, we share a fictionalized Reddit perspective that COULD have been written by Mica, exploring what it's like to slowly lose your voice, become a "shell of a person," and finally try to walk away.
Whether you are navigating your own faith deconstruction, trying to spot red flags in religious culture, or trying to understand the systemic pressures faced by pastors' wives, this conversation is for you.
Make sure to subscribe, share, and tune in next week as we continue this critical conversation with Part 2 on divorce, institutional betrayal, and a very special guest interview!

In this episode of We’re Doing It, Sofia and Albert dive into the cathartic (and sometimes chaotic) process of decluttering...not just physical items, but mental and emotional baggage too. Sofia shares the thrill of making sales online after losing her job, along with the hilarious realities of Facebook Marketplace: lowball offers, strange 10 PM meetup locations, and accidental harassment over Zelle transactions. Plus, things get spicy as they debate the "great sock mystery," Tasmanian devil tool piles in the barn, and reading wild Reddit threads about the worst Marketplace interactions.

In this episode of We’re Doing It, Sofia and Albert dive into the reality of turning 40, shifting mindsets, and why "midlife clarity" feels so much better than a midlife crisis. I almost didn’t post this episode.
For our 10th milestone episode, Albert and I decided to tackle a topic we’ve been avoiding: parenting. To keep things light, we brought our daughters on the show to play a quick game of "Who's Most Likely To" and roast us as parents. Well, they didn't hold back, and I’m not going to lie…hearing their honest perspectives hit my ego hard and left me feeling deeply embarrassed and completely exposed.
As a mom, you try so hard every single day, so hearing how your kids view certain moments can trigger instant mom guilt. Part of me wanted to trash the audio and pretend this never happened, but we decided to stay vulnerable and keep it completely real. We also dive into a wild Am I The Asshole? Reddit story about a third-grader, a strict reading policy, and a pair of muddy clothes.

This week on We're Doing It!, Sofia and Albert return for part two of their summer series on all the things married couples do that make each other cringe.

Do you ever look at your spouse in public and think, "I love you, but please pretend you don't know me right now"?
This week on We're Doing It!, Sofia and Albert dive into the deeply relatable, slightly gross, and hilarious boundaries that collapse once you’ve been married long enough.
From accidentally spending 30 entire minutes dissecting the mechanics of passing gas (and why Albert thinks farts are an inherited genetic trait), to navigating the unwritten rules of marital body boundaries—we are laying it all out on the table.
In this episode, we talk about:
Plus, we talk about Gen Alpha slang, classroom fart trauma from 5th grade, and why we’re building a community for real married people who just want to laugh at the absurdity of daily life.

Welcome to We’re Doing It!
Forget the polished, picture-perfect marriage advice. We’ve been married for 12 years; we have two kids, and we are officially…
Every week, join Sofia and Albert for an unfiltered, funny, and fiercely real look at the everyday stuff we all go through in life, parenting, and marriage. No characters, no labels, just two equal partners airing out their daily grievances, roasting each other's worst habits, and blind-reacting to the wildest relationship stories Reddit has to offer. From the invisible mental load of parenting to petty household standoffs, socks on the floor vs. the leftover graveyard in the fridge, nothing is off-limits.
This is a lighthearted, funny, and fiercely authentic look at the beautiful chaos of family life. You might hear from a special guest or a rotating co-host from time to time, but mostly, it’s just Sofia and Albert figuring it out in real-time.
Grab a coffee, pick a side, and welcome to the trenches. We’re doing it. We’re all doing it.
