We are beginning a new sermon series this week entitled “Set Free.” Throughout this series we will be exploring various things that tend to keep us in bondage as Christians. Without a doubt, one of those things would be a sense of shame and regret in our lives. Because of Jesus, we have been set free from the things that we have done and the mistakes that we have made and we can live freely in Christ.

If you have never been baptized/immersed into the name of Jesus, please prayerfully consider taking this important step in your relationship with God. I will be preaching on baptism this Sunday and will attempt to answer two important questions when it comes to being baptized: 1) What’s the big deal about baptism? And, 2) Why does my immersion matter? If you have already been baptized please join me in praying for those at West Houston who are considering this important next step in their faith journey with Jesus. Pray that hearts will be open to the preaching/teaching of the Word of God and pray that the Spirit will move powerfully among us as we gather together to worship this week. Throughout this series we are looking closely at the seven “I Am” statements found in the gospel of John and what the implications of those statements mean for us as disciples/Christ followers. This week, we will take a look at John 14:1—11 where Jesus declares that he is the Way, the Truth and the Life. I must admit that this passage is absolutely stunning! It is a beautiful passage filled with tenderness and compassion from Jesus and is loaded with meaning, significance and importance for us today. If you would like to hear a message of hope for a troubled heart then please make plans to join us on Sunday—I look forward to seeing each of you there.

I hope and pray that you are having a wonderful day and enjoying this beautiful “Spring” like weather. We are in for a special treat this Sunday as Jarrod Brown from Mission Lazarus will be with us to share an exciting update about the work in Honduras. Jarrod is an excellent communicator and is passionate about sharing the love of Jesus with people around the world. He graduated from Abilene Christian University with degrees in International Business and Spanish and moved to Honduras in 2001. Jarrod and his wife, Allison, started Mission Lazarus in 2004 which has full time operations in both Honduras and Haiti that includes Spiritual, Educational, Medical and Agricultural outreaches and 27 churches have been planted. Mission Lazarus “Glorifies God by advancing his Kingdom through holistic ministry and social enterprise with educational, medical, agricultural, and spiritual outreaches.” Jarrod says that “our holistic approach to ministry seeks to address multiple facets of community development and growth and ultimately is about sharing the love of Jesus around the world. Our comprehensive approach focuses on specific outreach methods in the areas of agriculture, education, medicine, church planting, refuge (orphan care) and addressing social needs of the community.” I know that we will all be blessed this week as we gather as the body of Christ to celebrate what God is doing among us here in West Houston and around the world.
