We explore 1 Corinthians 12 and discover how we are better when we are together.
For Personal Reflection/Small Group Study
Think about a time when you were a part of a team or group in which everyone was only out for themselves.
What was that like? What was difficult about that? Why
What role has community played in your own discipleship? Why? Be specific.
In Matthew 4:1-11, Jesus was tempted by Satan with three things: comfort, acclaim, and power.
Of these three, is there one that is more tempting than the others?
How does your involvement (or lack of involvement) in community affect your temptations?
Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-27.
Verses 14-18 deal with a spiritual inferiority complex. Why might someone feel like their role in the church “is not important’? What roles come to mind here? Why?
Verses 19-21 deal with a spiritual superiority complex. Why might someone feel like their role is “more important” than someone else’s? What roles come to mind here? Why?

Pastor Joe speaks on the importance of passing along our faith to our children, and five families make that commitment.
Primary Text: Deuteronomy 6:4-6
4 “Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. 5 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. 6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today.[i]
Purpose of Dedication Sunday:
It’s about commitment!
It’s about Jesus!
The first step to dedicating your family to God is to recognize Him as Lord in your life, and show his love in every way that you live.
Then you must tell your kids about God and his commandments.
When you think about the importance that God places on this responsibility as parents, take a moment to consider and discuss the thoughts God is placing on your heart right now.

Why do we dedicate?
You are called by God
You are the greatest influence in the lives of your children.

Ephesians 5:15-17
15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.[ii]
You are already discipling your kids…the question is, “What are we making them disciples of?”

Take a moment to consider and discuss what God is saying to you from Ephesians 5:15-17
Parents, you are not alone.
The church is your partner. We are here to help.

This week’s focus is on our need and desire for inter-generational ministry from Titus 2.
For Personal Reflection/Small Group Discussion:
According to Titus 1:12, the people of Crete were known to be “all liars, cruel animals, and lazy gluttons” (NLT).
How did the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus, speak into this reality?
Why was the “intergenerational model” recommended?
Think about the issues that plague our own culture- a lack of truth, mean-spiritedness and self-seeking materialism and consumerism.
How does the Gospel speak into our reality today?
Why is an “intergenerational model” needed today?
God’s vision for intergenerational discipleship plays out in a number of ways.
It looks like investing in relationships.
Think about the people you usually hang out with. Do you have more things in common than differences? Do they mostly look like you, act like you and think like you? How has this helped you grow?
Are you in a discipling relationship with someone of a different age?
It looks like events and programming that takes into account multiple generations.
Think about the church events and programming in which you participate. How many ages are represented? How does having only similarly aged people make the event better? What’s the impact of not being more representative?
It looks like involvement and serving.
Think about the ways you are involved at WestWay in a small group, Bible study, Sunday School Class, or serving opportunity. How many age groups or generations are involved? How can you change this?

This week we look at how marriages, and singleness, should reflect God.
For Personal Reflection/Small Group Study
Read Genesis 1-2 and respond to the following:
Compare/contrast the way man was made with the rest of creation. Why does this matter?
Why was man placed in the garden? What was his role?
Why did the man need a helper? Why did God make this helper from the man? What does “naked and unashamed” mean?
Read Matthew 19:1-12 and respond to the following:
Why did Jesus begin his response to the Pharisees by quoting Genesis 2:24? What does this say about Jesus’ view and value of marriage?
Jesus seems to not only acknowledge that being single is alright, but to affirm and even encourage it. Why, then, do we seem to place such a high value on marriage?
Read 1 Corinthians 7, dividing it into 4 section, and respond to the following:
Verses 1-7- Summarize into 3-5 sentences what Paul is saying.
Verses 8-9- Compare/contrast this with Jesus’ words in Matthew 19:1-12.
Verses 10-16- Summarize into 3-5 sentences what Paul is saying.
Verses 17-24- Paul seems to be answering the question, “How do I live my life after I become a believer?”. Summarize Pauls’ response in 3-5 sentences.
Verses 24-40- Summarize what Paul is saying.

We begin our Families Matter series with the reminder to build our families on the right foundation.
For Personal Reflection/Small Group Study
Read Deuteronomy 6 & 7
Make a list of sins- wrong actions, attitudes, or thoughts- that are mentioned in these passages to avoid in life.
Make a list of promises, these will give us confidence when we doubt God or face difficult times. Take them to heart and believe what they say.
What examples do you find? Is there a right way of thinking or acting described that you should take as an example in your life?
Write all the commands you find. When a passage encourages you to take action, take it as a command and write it down.
What does this passage tell you about God that you can apply to your daily life?
Read Judges 1 & 2
Compile all the facts in this text- make observations on what it says.
Draw a few principles from the observations you made- write what God is trying to teach you.
Who will you apply these principles to your life? Be specific- who, what, when?
Matthew 5-7 is what we call, “The Sermon on the Mount”. Read the whole thing carefully.
How is chapter 7 different than chapters 5 & 6?
