My final show of 2010.  As teary-eyed I might get and miss doing the show till next summer, it gives me plenty of time to gather more material for next summer's shows.

This week's show features an hour of Fu Manchu and some Nebula along with it, as a "preparation" for finally being able to see Fu Manchu play live at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA this weekend.

Over the course of the next 9 months, I will be digging into my archives for shows from my old Blood Calculus days, which were a more mixed bag show that included heavier selections from the death, black, grind, and doom metal genres. It might not be a cup of tea for all of you who have subscribed to this page, but there are some gems in there, especially with some of my theme-based shows around certain holidays and events.

Featured band of the week is the Melvins, originally from the Greater Seattle area and now based in San Francisco.  Formed in the early 1980s and still going, although they have cycled through many bassists and now have taken the 2 drummer route.  More notably is their influence on the sludge genre, as well as being a major influence on the Seattle alt rock scene, aka grunge music.

Next week will be my last broadcast of this summer season and my featured band will be Fu Manchu.

Contrary to my post from last week that claimed I would be doing a Melvins block on this week's show, I decided to do an Electric Wizard set instead.  Mainly due to a colleague's request that I help acquaint him with the Electric Wizard catalog.  Plus, I just haven't had the time to sift through the gargantuan Melvins discography yet.

Next week, hopefully, will be the Melvins block.

Hour 1 is the usual array of miscellaneous stoner rock and metal.  But Hour 2 is a relatively decent retrospective of Scott "Wino" Weinrich's career through his various bands from across the ages.  I say "relatively decent" because I blatantly forgot to include his track from the Dave Grohl side project Probot.

3 weeks of summer shows left to go.  During the fall, winter, and spring, I will be launching a separate page for uploads of recorded shows from years past.  The material on these shows is much more varied (grindcore, doom, death, black, and thrash metal), as it was before I undertook the task of dealing strictly with stoner rock and metal.  But I encourage you to check them out all the same, as I do come up with some nifty themes for some of my shows in my archive.

An ode to my laziness and/or a lack of time to prepare a comprehensive show, my 2nd hour feature is Sleep's 1999 Dopesmoker record, which is the extended version of their 1995 record Jerusalem. 63 minutes of stoner metal dirges and sludge.

Next week will either be Clutch or Fu Manchu. Plus in-studio guests for a gluttonous event.

The second hour this week is a retrospective of Kyuss and Kyuss-related bands, including QOTSA, Unida, Hermano, and Slo Burn.

Tried to manually level out the volumes of the tracks so there are so many "hills and valleys" in the recording.

Perhaps a Scott "Wino" Weinrich feature next week, and I WILL have the show online. Just wait and see.

This week’s featured band is Wisconsin’s legends, Bongzilla.  Also featured in the second hour alongside them are Buzzov-en, Weedeater, and Sourvein, who share members with, or in Buzzov-en’s case were the predecessor of Bongzilla.

Please note that there is nothing I can do at the moment about the inconsistency of the volume levels of the recording.  My normal audio source, which comes after the signal modulator, is out of service and you get the raw volume of the original masters and not the adjusted levels that come from the FM modulator.  Hopefully that will be resolved soon.

Belated Happy Independence Day, for those of you in the United States.

This week's show didn't feature any particular band, but all stoner rock/metal bands from the US, as a sort of celebration of the July 4th holiday here in the US.
