Isabel Rivero-Vila won the award for Best Feature Documentary at the Cannes Independent Film Festival for her first feature-length documentary film "Afrykas and the Magic Box," a celebration of cinema and culture in Senegal. The film is being screened at Carthage College on Saturday evening, April 15th, 7:00 in the Campbell Student Union Auditorium; a Q&A with the filmmaker will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

For her monthly visit to the Morning Show, Nan Calvert invited Brian Gunderson and John Holloway, two area farmers who are members of a farmer-led group called the Watershed Protection Committee of Racine County. The group seeks to foster better practices among area farmers for soil and water preservation.

We preview the Racine Theater Guild's production of "Stand and Deliver" with Edson Melendez, the director of the production. The show opens this Friday night and runs for just two weekends. The play and film are based on the true story of a high school math teacher, Jaime Escalante, who achieved amazing success at James A. Garfield High School in East Los Angeles.

We talk with writer Tracey Baptiste, who wrote a much-discussed piece for the New York Times a couple of years ago in response to widespread criticism of Disney for casting a young black actress as Ariel in their upcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid. Baptiste's essay explained how mermaids show up in the folklore of all kinds of cultures all around the world. She has just written a new children's picture book titled 'Mermaid and Pirate."
