We catch up with Jack Rose, alderman of the 15th district in Kenosha, and board president for the Kenosha County of NAMI - the National Alliance on Mental Illness.   

We preview this week's "Beauty in Expression" Visual and Performing Arts Symposium at Carthage College.  Joining us is Dr. Corinne Ness, Dean of the Division of Arts and Humanities,  and Dr. Jojin van Winkle, Assistant Professor of Art.  One aspect of the symposium is an exhibit of Soviet-era artworks.  There is also a public screening of a renowned documentary film from early in the Soviet era and a performance of the cello sonata by Shostakovich.   All events are free. 

This is the complete interview I recorded back in the spring of 2010 with Frank and Janet Germinaro, talking about the 40th anniversary of his kidney transplant.  (Most of this interview was part of the broadcast of today's Morning Show.  Today's Morning Show - which can be heard in a separate file - includes a conversation with Kenosha Pops conductor Craig Gall- and several excerpts featuring his singing and accordion playing.)

Today's program is a memorial tribute to Frank Germinaro, a beloved educator and musician here in Southeast Wisconsin who passed away this past Thursday at the age of 74.   We begin with Kenosha Pops conductor Craig Gall talking about his friend and mentor.  We then replay most of a memorable Morning Show conversation from 2010 with Frank and his wife Janet- talking about his kidney transplant from 40 years earlier.  (At that point in time, it was exceedingly rare for a kidney transplant recipient to live that long.)  That conversation will be available in its entirety in a separate file.

Part One: The Mayo Clinic's Dr. Holly Geyer discusses her book "Ending the Crisis," which chronicles the emergence of the opioid epidemic (the leading cause of deaths among American adults between the ages of 18 and 45) - and shares some thoughts on how we can best reverse these alarming trends.  Part Two:  Best-selling author Anthony Swofford ("Jarhead") talks about his book "Hotels, Hospitals and Jails: a Memoir" which is about his difficult relationship with his father. 

We observe Wisconsin Salt Awareness Week with our good friend Nan Calvert along with Laura Buska, who is the manager of the Respect Our Waters program for the Root Pike Watershed Initiative Network.  Next week is Wisconsin Salt Awareness Week, in which attention is drawn to the danger of salt to our fresh water supply.

From 2015-  Richard Goldstein, author of "Another Little Piece of my Heart:  My Life of Rock and Revolution in the 60's."  Goldstein was one of the first music critics to write seriously and perceptively about the rock music of his generation.  His book is also a vivid memoir of much of what he experienced on a personal level during those years.
