Last episode of the first season of Whack or Shack! This time we are not in Portugal, but on the Spanish island of Tenerife, in the middle of the Atlantic. Mo moved here for some months and this was the perfect occasion to simply spend some days together exploring new spots, enjoying warmer water, and longer nights out. This time we simply go through the typical lazy-day routine, driving down to the closest beach break to then chill in the parking lot and look at the waves while talking shit...this is what Whack or Shack is all about.
Whack or Shack Couch Edition (it's the eighth episode bros)! Sometimes you can drive for hours and check every kilometre of the coast and still not find one single surfable wave. It's summer, the surf sucks and shit happens. So on a very warm day in June, we just decided to leave the boards in the rack and chill on our living room sofa in Carcavelos with our beloved well-known friend Jeff, drinking beers, watching surf edits, and talking bullshit about our surf crushes. Just killing time during a flat spell and bringing you some summer vibe...
In this episode we had the luck of spending an amazing afternoon with one of Sintra's local legends and Portuguese female surfer Leonor Fragoso. The 2021 summer will always be remembered for the epic sands banks that were showing up in the Sintra area, gifting some of the nicest and not-so-summerish summer surf sessions. So it was the perfect period to meet up with someone who checks those banks literally every day. Leonor gave us some nice tips about the area, told us about her adventurous surf trips in tropical places, and discussed with us about the promising future of female surfers, especially in Portugal. And after all the talking, well, she showed us how those waves should actually be surfed...
The sixth episode of our surfy shady show is all about discoveries, while we check empty and oversized lineups in the Sintra area. A whole day free, shitty and windy surfing conditions, warm sun, cold wind, and a lot of uncertainty about what to do with our boards and wetsuits brought us thinking about our wildest surf fantasies and dream trips. Moreover, we had the opportunity to put our hands on the very famous Stormrider surf guide (at least known among surfers of the early 2000s) and read about the surrounding Portuguese surf spots, bringing to light their darkest and funniest truths.
In this episode, we spent an entire day with a friend of ours, an extreme surf nerd, an insider of the local surf scene. If anything happens in the Portuguese, or even European, surf scene, he knows about it for sure, he is the man behind the infamous danereynolds.lawyer nickname on Stab, the one and only, Paco Peruzzo Amar. We had the luck of meeting him down at the beach in Costa de Caparica during the Estrella Galicia Caparica Surf Fest QS event, where he was chit-chatting with everybody (literally). Apart from revealing us some spicy insides about the Lisbon surf scene, he showed us his daily go-to spots in Costa da Caparica and even his epic house on the hills. Even his dogs are stoked!
This is the fourth episode of Whack or Shack! This time we had a new guest, our friend Jakob Lilienweis, Portuguese surfer with German blood. Jakob has grown up in the warmer water of the Algarve, competed internationally until he decided that the pro-surfer life wasn’t exactly his ideal and so moved to Lisbon to study, where at a certain point he got to know the whack or shack committee. The rest is history. While searching for a good sunset surf near home, we get to know our friend Jakob better, letting him talk about some good stories from his surf junkie past.
Alright alright alright...This is the third episode of Whack or Shack. Despite Mo injured his ankle on a hangover session in Praia da Adraga, we decided to try surfing the spots in the Sintra area again to enjoy one of the firsts spring/summer swells. We upgraded our equipment with new mics and you are going to listen to our bullshits about surfing clearer than ever. From discussing which jobs could let us surf as much as possible in our lives, to gossiping around the last WSL contest in Narrabeen, Mo prepares himself watching the others surf in his place for some long time...
This is the first episode of Whack or Shack! One German dude called Mo and another Italian Joe called Buca drive around searching for a decent spot to surf. Our heroes check the surf spots in the area, do some comments, say some bullshit, talk about surf basically. If they are not satisfied they say "Whack!" and they move forward. When they find the "Shack" they will jump in the water. In this episode, you will hear about some spots along the Linha, that is the southern coastline of Cascais, Portugal. Tune in to hear what the two have to say about the area they live in.
