Some of the more memorable members of the WHAM were only on the air a few minutes a day. Liz Bonis was one of them. WHAM's Health and Medical Reporter launched her now 30 year career at WHAM radio and still tries to make every story she tells entertaining, engaging and informative.

Koz (Warren Kozireski) and Boomer (Kurt Schenk) - guests on our last episode - both served as producer for legendary WHAM personality Jack Slattery. Jack retired after more than 40 years on the air on June 30th, 1988. Koz was behind the scenes running the show and Jack was surrounded by his family as he opened the mic one last time.

Better known by their nicknames, Warren Kozireski and Kurt Schenk share more than a few things in common when you look at their broadcasting pasts. Both had on air roles with the station and were also part of the behind the scenes crew at WHAM - show producers - making talent sound great.

Radio is the ORIGINAL social media. Not only can an audience immerse themselves in a story, in real time, they can interact with a story and the community at large. Politicians have long sought after WHAM and our audience. In April of 1992, presidential candidate Bill Clinton was interviewed by WHAM afternoon talk host Jack Kinnicutt. Then, WHAM listeners got the chance to "sound off" about what they heard from the man who would go on to be the nation's 43rd President.

Big stories can, sometimes, happen on a football field. Or a baseball diamond. Or a golf course. And WHAM was there to cover those stories. It's how we earned the title of Sports Leader. But sports coverage didn't just happen on game days. It was a part of the every day. In this episode, Steve Hausmann and Mike Schopp talk about their love for radio and their time at WHAM.

When a major, local story breaks, listeners have long known to tune to WHAM for coverage and updates throughout the day. And when a story was big enough to command national attention, network news organizations and syndicated talk shows turned to the reporters at WHAM to provide context and perspectives on these stories. One such story was a series of mail bombings that happened in the Rochester region in December of 1993.

They've spent most (if not all) of their careers in front of a camera. But they cut their news teeth in radio. And worked their butts off to build their careers. Stories in this episode from Doug Emblidge and Seth Voorhees.

Continuing the tribute to WHAM's longest running program - The Green Thumb with Doc and Katy Abraham. Thanks to WHAM listener, Bill Dulmage, we hear another complete show - this one from June 27th, 1998.

The longest running show in WHAM's history was The Green Thumb - a half hour, weekly gardening show - hosted by George "Doc" and Katy Abraham. An over 50 year run ended in the early 2000's. Allan Harris and Jack Slattery talked with Doc and Katy for the 70th anniversary in 1992. We also have a complete show from June of 1999 - near the end of the show's run.
