On The Way

What do you want me to do for you?

Listen Later

The Miracles of Jesus, in addition to blessing those in need, also teach us great and important lessons. Luke says that Jesus came from Jericho. Mark and Matthew say that Jesus was leaving Jericho, and Matthew also says there were two blind men.

As we study Mark, we must look at the scene from Mark's perspective without ignoring the other writers. It is in Mark, chapters 10:46 to 52. The blind man shouted the name of Jesus, son of David, and asked, "Have mercy on me!"

The crowd asked him to be silent, but Jesus called and asked him, "What can I do for you?" The response was immediate: Rabboni that I may receive my sigh. The healing was also immediate, and he began to follow Jesus on the road.

Details: Jesus ordered people several times not to reveal his identity. But the blind man knew that he was Jesus, the son of David and, therefore, the son of God. The crowd wanted to silence him, but he screamed even louder. While the Gadarenes or Gerasenes were demonized, Jesus sent them back home. Blind Bartimaeus followed Jesus. Interestingly, when the man approached Jesus, he threw his garment away!

At that time, the blind occupied the last place in society, along with widows and orphans. They were below the subsistence level. They were facing real danger, and the garment represented the safety of the man and the safety of the blind. Leaving her behind meant he had faith. That faith that Jesus would heal him. And Jesus did not disappoint him. Everyone who came to Jesus for help was welcomed, even because Jesus said the following. Everything the Father gives me will come, and I will never throw away what comes to me.
