About the tale: this one comes from Brazil, an old folktale about how night first came into the world, passed down along the Amazon and first collected in English more than a hundred years ago. We kept its oldest idea, that night had to come from somewhere, and retold the rest for ages 4 to 8.

About the tale: this is the Parable of the Eagle, told in the 1920s by the Ghanaian teacher James Kwegyir Aggrey, about an eagle raised among chickens who had to be reminded to look up. It has been retold around the world ever since. We kept the eagle, the farmyard, and the looking up, and retold the rest for ages 4 to 8.

Leo is moving far away tomorrow, and he doesn't want to go. On his last evening at home, his grandpa sits beside him and tells him the story, and a few words worth remembering: maybe good, maybe bad, we'll see.

About the tale: Grandpa's story retells Sai Weng Shi Ma, the old man who lost his horse, first written down in China more than two thousand years ago in the Huainanzi. "Who knows if it is good luck or bad luck" is still an everyday saying in Chinese today. We kept the farmer, the horse, and the shrug, and retold the rest for ages 4 to 8.
