Listen Later

Returning for the his second pre-gaming calendar event show this year, your boy Geoff Keighley presented Gamescom Opening Night Live, promising lots of updates and exclusive reveals across a number of games.

First up, we had the return of Saints Row – in reboot form no less! The Marvel title from the XCOM devs finally came to fruition in the form of Midnight Suns. Call of Duty Vanguard’s campaign was examined in more details (featuring Laura Bailey). Halo Infinite got a release date of the 8th of December, and will be flanked by a new halo-inspired Elite controller and a beautiful black/gold Xbox Series X. Horizon Forbidden West received a Feb 2022 release date, and Horizon Zero Dawn now has a 60fps PS5 patch. We saw Cult of The Lamb and Midnight Express, April O’Neil joins the line-up of playable characters in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, and Persona 5’s Morgana will be available as a playable character in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania. Elsewhere, Splitgate is receiving more content via it’s impending “Season 0”, Riders Republic’s beta is now open, UFL is a free to play football (soccer) game soon to be detailed, and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga finally took to the spotlight to unveil a vague “spring 2022” release date.

Scifi shooter Synced: Off Planet was shown off, The Outlast Trials looks absolutely terrifying but will happily have co-op, and in the surprise twist of the evening, DokeV became our favourite game and yours. It’s a sort of MMO, creature capturing game, and it looks bonkers. A Jurassic World Evolution 2 trailer was Goldblum-less but came with a 9th November release date, and Far Cry 6’s story trailer showed off Giancarlo Esposito’s villain in all his menacing glory. We also saw vampire battle royale Blood Hunt, theme park builder Park Beyond, Jett: The Far Shore, Amazon MMO New World, and mobile RPG Marvel: Future Revolution.

Finally rounding out the show, Tales of Luminaria is a mobile game, Deadmau5 is stuck in a social space called Core, Fall Guys is doing a Jungle Book collaboration, Valheim will soon receive the Hearth & Home expansion, we got a further look at CrossfireX’s multiplayer, Sifu will be released in February 2022, and there was an extended look at Death Stranding Director’s Cut.
