The Southern Baptist Convention addressed some of the most important questions facing churches today, from the role of small and bivocational churches to a landmark vote defining the pastoral office as held by a biblically qualified man. The convention also clarified that the terms pastor, elder, and overseer all refer to the same office, bringing needed clarity to a conversation that had grown confused. Biblical headship is not about hierarchy for its own sake. It is a picture of the gospel, pointing to Jesus Christ as the new head who does what Adam failed to do by protecting and providing through His death and resurrection. The family and the church are deeply connected, and when either loses clarity on God's design, everything downstream suffers. The call for every believer is to let Scripture shape culture, not the other way around.
