Paulette Gebara Farah, a four-year-old disabled Mexican girl, disappeared from her bedroom on March 22, 2010, prompting her family to launch a widespread search campaign. Her body was discovered nine days later, on March 31, wrapped in sheets between the mattress and the foot of her bed, despite extensive searches by various agencies and search dogs. Her death was ruled accidental, with the investigation concluding that she died of asphyxia after turning herself around in bed. On the night of her disappearance, Paulette's nanny Erika couldn't find her and alerted her family, who then contacted the authorities. The family initially claimed there were no signs of theft or kidnapping, and surveillance provided no evidence of Paulette leaving or being taken. Paulette was buried on April 6, 2010, and her case remains controversial due to mishandling of the investigation, public suspicion of the parents and nannies, and numerous unresolved questions about her death.
