What Have We Become? Violent.
The past week we Queenslanders have seen some fairly horrific headlines regarding violence toward children.
From the Courier Mail headline of a father saying
“I’m happy she died”
Sunday the 26th of January we saw a headline stating
“Woman charged over death of nine-year-old boy in Townsville”
But is it any surprise that a nation that accepts the killing of the unborn, all the way up till birth, also has an issue with violence against children?
Whether it be withholding lifesaving medicine or physically beating a child to death or taking the life of the unborn in the womb. Murder is murder.
What the Bible does tell us is this: children
have a special place in God’s heart and anyone who harms a child is inviting God’s wrath upon himself.
When Jesus’ disciples tried to keep children from
coming to Jesus, He rebuked them and welcomed the children to His side, saying,
“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them for the kingdom of
God belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:14). Then He took the children in His arms and blessed them (verse 16). The Bible
promotes child blessing, not child abuse.
