WHAT THE SCHNERT!?

What I Learned About Sales...

Listen Later

I hadn't really done much in the way of sales jobs and I found that it was easier to just have someone give me a task and tell me how much I'll get paid. That's why I worked at the cable company for 3 years, and why I've been with Microsoft for almost 6 years (collectively). However, it wasn't until getting sales jobs that I realized there was potential in getting paid based on performance instead of position. What I didn't know is that sales "jobs" are just like regular jobs: Someone telling you what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. Even though commission can be a beautiful thing, it isn't all it's cracked up to be. This drove me to learn more about what I DON'T want from being a sales person, and what I really do want.
