In this episode of Mental Health Mavens, Dr. Jabeene Bhimji explains what DBT or dialectical behavior therapy is and who it is appropriate for. She also covers some basic DBT skills and how it can be an effective therapy for those struggling with suicide idealization and thoughts.
ABOUT DR. JABEENE BHIMJI
Dr. Jabeene Bhimji’s therapeutic approach is strongly rooted in the utilization of evidence-based treatments to facilitate mental well-being. Her training has largely been oriented towards targeting mood and anxiety-related difficulties, trauma-based symptoms, early psychosis, and other concerns impacting patterns of thought, feeling, and behaviour (e.g. personality disorders, adjustment disorders). While largely operating from a cognitive-behavioural framework, Dr. Bhimji identifies as an integrative therapist, and uses various humanistic and third-wave CBT approaches (including DBT, ACT) to orient clients towards skills they can use to improve their social, occupational, and daily functioning. Dr. Bhimji views the therapeutic relationship as an essential factor in enabling client progress and works to create a non-judgment and compassion environment for clients to work towards collaboratively established therapeutic goals.
