A fortnight ago we covered the crowing of Mr Australasia Bear 2018, Dale from Harbour City Bears, and with it saw the end of the previous titleholder’s reign.
Morro Qiu from New Zealand stepped down as a title holder. Originally born in China before emigrating to New Zealand, Morro represented a diverse image of what it means to be a bear and shared a narrative that we don’t always see, and don’t always allow enough room for a voice in our communities.
Once he had finished his title year, Morro sat down with The Informers Tom Morgan and had a chat about the privileges and perils of being in the spotlight and spreading some panda love on what it means to be an Asian man in our bear community.
This segment of The Informer aired on JOY 94.9 on 3rd July and was hosted by Dean Arcuri.
