Before there was social media, the most influential piece of technology was television. Since the 1950’s tv’s have sucked our attention, created idols, told us what we “really need”, and who we “need” to be. There are 2 sides of that coin: it can be really inspiring to see what you “could be” but without enough representation, it can be discouraging to see one dimensional sides of the media. Join me and Siobhan Gallagher author & illustrator of “Full of Myself: A Graphic Memoir About Body Image” as we dive into her book, the dangers of one dimensional media, giving yourself grace as you grow and how to make the best out of what you see on the media. This is not an episode I want you guys to miss.

Guess who's back!! I missed y'all, I feel on fire and ready for this season! Every year, we make it a point to write out small goals that bring us closer to the person we want to be. I want "What School Didn't Teach Me" to be a space of encouragement for you on that journey.
This season, our theme is "Re-Present, Represent!"
Re-Present: It's hard to become the person you want to be! You have to unlearn bad habits, set boundaries (for yourself and others) and find enough inspiration to stay consistent, but to not compare yourself with others.
Represent: It's so important that we show up as an authentic form of ourselves, because it gives others permission to & inspiration for, showing up authentically as well. I hope that each episode makes you more audacious and bold, in your journey to self. I'm glad to be back❤️

Classmates, join me and my “sister from another mister,” Callia Thompson, for the season finale of What School Didn’t Teach Me. This episode continues last week’s conversation with a meaningful twist, wrapping up our “Investing in Yourself” series.
We explore the powerful reminder that your community is a choice. Being intentional and mindful about the friends you connect with is essential because, after all, friends are the family you choose. Callia and I share how our loved ones have shaped our personal development, the importance of mutual support, and the value of loyalty, security, and taking up space in our relationships.
Get ready for an inspiring and heartfelt discussion that feels like the perfect way to close this season.

See you next season!
Classmates we’ve talked about a lot of investments this season, this week I want us to have a conversation about other’s impact on us. Specifically, a mother’s investment. Join me for part one of a conversation between me and my sister-friend Callie Thompson, as we talk about the joys of being a (seemingly) only child, and how a mother’s impact leaves a lifelong imprint.

Classmates we are back! As we close out the year, and this season of our podcast, I want to take the time to remind you how important it is to slow down. Sometimes self care is as simple as learning to show gratitude in the most mundane parts of life. Chewing food slowly, smelling your coffee before you drink it, choosing to embrace the present moment, while you work for your future. This episode might be my favorite all season, and while it took me a while to share it with you, I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I do. Quick update; we are coming to the end of Season 3 this month, our last episode premiers on Dec. 31st, but in the meantime, we're going to keep investing! Make sure you follow us on instagram fur updates at (@wsdtmpod) I love y'all and I LOVE the classroom.First time joining us? Hi! Welcome to the classroom! Welcome to Gratitude 101—the perfect episode for the season of thanksgiving. What are you thankful for? Do you even know where to start? In this special episode, I’m thankful for YOU, my classmates, our incredible guest Leila Walton, and a merciful God.
It’s easy to thank God when life is smooth sailing, but what about when times are tough? How do we stay afloat during life’s challenges? The answer: Gratitude. The practice of recognizing the present moment and embracing the silver lining.
Join Leila and I as we discuss how to identify gratitude, how it strengthens our spiritual journey, and why happiness is ultimately a choice—one you can make at any moment, no matter the circumstances.
Tune in for practical tips on cultivating gratitude in your own life and discover how this simple shift in perspective can change everything.

We will only accept what we believe we deserve.
Classmates, when was the last time you looked at a situation and thought "I deserve more than this?" This month, as we invest in our mental health, I want to invite us to strive for more. To not simply accept what we're used to, but to think about what we actually want; in life, from our jobs, and our relationships, and especially from ourselves.
I know that I did not start making radical changes in my lifestyle, until I realized that I did not have to accept certain things in my life. I could have
- better physical health,
- better mental health,
- I could change the way I thought about myself,
- and how the relationships around me, made me feel.
That is my hope for all the classmates. Join me in the conversation, as we look for more in life.

Classmates, I decided to close this month out with an episode more light hearted and full of laughter. Join author of "Little Black Poetry Book" Aiyana Sha'niel and I for an hour full of nostalgia and laughs. As we await Aiyana's new book "Hood•Child" , we take a trip down memory lane discussing animation, music from the early 2000's and even what it looked like to have your experience invalidated by people who look like you.
"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. " Hebrews 11:1
I was originally going to name this episode "Don't Be Afraid of Purpose" but it ultimately ended up being a conversation about how important it is that, as a believer, you are okay with moving in conventional faith. That you are okay with your path looking different from others, with following God even when it doesn't look easy, and that you seek praise from Him, instead of the world around you. I hop you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it
