This week on Parent Tell Kaila talks with Lisa Sugarman, a mom, published author, and radio show host, on figuring out how to support your kiddo when they are in need. Kaila and Lisa talk at length about taking a step back when your child is working to figure out who they are and what path they want to take in life. No helicopter or lawn mower parents, here! Lisa shares the story of her youngest daughter's journey to find out what career is right for her, and it turns out that going to college was not part of that . In a society that tends to place a ridiculous amount of value on a college degree and the traditional four year university path, it is vital to normalize discussions around seeking what drives you and what makes you happy as opposed to what we feel like we are ~supposed~ to do after high school. Lisa's supportive parenting style is a wonderful model for doing exactly that. Our kids' lives do not have to mirror ours and in fact, they probably shouldn't.
