It was massively successful and the key to its success lay in a form of therapy called The Game. But as Synanon gained more and more attention, things began to get weirder and weirder. People without addictions started attending so they could play The Game. Charles progressively became more and more controlling and eventually, what started as a supportive, tough-love regime turned into a fully fledged cult. Michelle follows with a look at little-known cult-slash-religion called Palo Mayombe, headed by the Narcosatanist occult leader, Adolfo Costanzo. When Texas university student Mark Killroy went missing during Spring Break in Matamoros in 1989, his disappearance was a mystery.
