Rachel: So, on this episode of the finance, because it's summertime. And a lot of people are getting married. We thought doing an episode on wedding spending could be really helpful. So I will admit that despite being a married person. My experience with weddings is actually somewhat limited. As far as being in them. I have been in three, two of them were Cheyenne’s and one of them was my sister’s, my own was extremely affordable. I think I spent about $1000 on the whole shebang. So, you want tips for a frugal wedding come to me and I’ll help you out.
Cheyenne: I'm trying to think, I don't know that I been in anybody's as an adult, I I can remember. Oh, that's not true. I've been in two weddings, my best friends and my parents. Rachel: Yes, you were. Cheyenne: Yeah. I kept thinking about it and I knew I had, but yeah. . . And then as Rachel mentioned I've been, I've been married twice. So, I have planned two weddings, and one was on a very tight budget, in which I made a lot of the decorations myself, and it was all in all I think we spent maybe two or three thousand on it. Somewhere in there. And then my second most recent marriage. We spent. . . I want to say like six or so. You would think that that's a number that I would remember especially as a finance for it and I was kind of a finance nerd then too but I. It's been a while, so I just don't remember anymore. But again, I think we did things kind of affordably. That one was definitely more of a splurge wedding we knew we had a certain vision in mind and we did what we wanted to do. We were very mindful of spending and we didn't spend a lot and other areas that we could spend more than thumb. And I am pretty biased but I think it's one of the best ones that I've ever been to. Rachel: Yeah, I'm going to give that one a solid second. So, as I was getting ready for this episode. The national average for a wedding in the United States is $33,900. So, way to go. [laughter]Oh man. . . Sorry for our audience. We play have to do a video because Cheyenne’s face is just fantastic. Cheyenne: That made my everything hurt. Rachel: Right! Cheyenne: That was icky. I mean, like, I guess I don't. My only concern is that people are going into debt to pay that amount for a wedding. Rachel: Right. Well, the fact is they are. And how it breaks down the highest amount of money is typically spend on photographers. Yep, followed by food, the clothes, the rings, and the venue. Cheyenne: I would have thought that venue would be up higher on that list. Rachel: Honestly, wedding photographers make bank. Cheyenne: I know some photographers and the equipment is super expensive, and the time that it takes them to edit so like, They may, quote unquote, only be spending 10 or so hours on that particular day with you, but you're also paying for, you know, the equipment, travel time. And then all the time that they're going to spend editing those photos so like, it is right I get it when you break down that hourly rate, they're probably not making that much. Rachel: it's fair that is fair. Cheyenne: It's still expensive but I mean that the sticker value of that is shocking. But, I get it. Food is one that I struggle a little bit with. We were struggling to find a food option that we both enjoyed, and we just wanted like a taco bar, and they
